The Frisco Convention & Visitors Bureau, the City of Frisco, and the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation Announce TXU Energy as Title Sponsor for the TXU Energy Winter Games of Texas

FRISCO, Texas, Nov. 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The Frisco Convention &
Visitors Bureau (Frisco CVB), the City of Frisco, and the Texas Amateur
Athletic Federation (TAAF) are pleased to announce that TXU Energy is the
title sponsor for the Winter Games of Texas, an amateur Olympic-style event
featuring a multitude of sports for athletes of all ages. The partnership
between TAAF, the City of Frisco, the Frisco CVB and TXU Energy will provide a
significant economic impact to the city.
By partnering together to create the TXU Energy Winter Games of Texas,
TAAF hopes to increase amateur participation in its events and expand its
membership base by adding additional sports to its existing amateur
competitions. Likewise, the City of Frisco and the Frisco Convention &
Visitors Bureau were looking for an opportunity to utilize the incredible
collection of sporting venues and facilities within the city, while developing
a quality, family-oriented event that would also help to fill area hotels and
be a boon to the local economy. "We think that this is just another
incredibly exciting opportunity that fits perfectly with our plan to continue
to elevate our standing as one of the best sports destinations in the state,
while providing our merchants and community with an event that will generate
some excellent economic benefits and the opportunity to view amateur athletics
at its best," said Mayor Mike Simpson of Frisco.
"TXU Energy values its corporate citizenship programs. We have previously
sponsored TAAF's Summer Games of Texas, and are pleased to assist in this
exciting and new event that celebrates the best in Texas amateur athletics,"
said David Hennekes, general manager of consumer markets TXU Energy.
"Although it might take several years for this event to grow to the size
and stature of TAAF's Summer Games of Texas, if we land the 2,000 - 3,000
athletes that we are projecting for our first year, plus their families, it's
easy to see how this partnership could create a significant and positive
economic impact on the local economy," said Marla Roe, Executive Director of
the Frisco CVB. Added Mark Lord, Executive Director of TAAF, "We're thrilled
to be able to expand our program and provide additional opportunities for
Texas' best amateur athletes to compete, and are extremely fortunate to have a
willing partner like the City of Frisco and the Frisco CVB. They have been
absolutely incredible to work with, and we are thrilled to have found a small
town with such an incredible variety of world-class sporting venues and
attractions for our athletes and their families to use and enjoy."

    City of Frisco
Frisco, Texas aims to be a premier tourism and meetings destination, and
brings its own unique blend of accommodations, attractions, dining, shopping,
sporting and recreational opportunities that few other cities of its size can
match. As one of the fastest growing cities in the nation for more than a
