Ross J. Centanni Elected Chairman and New Directors to Join the Board of Gardner Denver, Inc.

    QUINCY, Ill., Nov. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Gardner Denver, Inc. (NYSE: GDI)
announced today that Ross J. Centanni has been elected Chairman of the
Company's Board of Directors.  Mr. Centanni will continue to serve as the
President and CEO of the Company, as well.  Alan E. Riedel, the former
Chairman of the Board, will continue to serve as a director of the Company.
The Company also announced that Raymond R. Hipp and Richard L.  Thompson have
joined the Company's Board of Directors in newly created directorships.
    Mr. Centanni, age 53, has served as President and CEO since the Company's
spin-off in 1993.  He was previously Vice President and General Manager of
Gardner Denver's predecessor, the Gardner-Denver Industrial Machinery Division
of Cooper Industries, Inc. and, prior to that, Director of Marketing for the
Division.
    Mr. Hipp, age 56, serves as Chairman, President and CEO of Alternative
Resources Corp., a provider of information technology staffing and component
outsourcing.
    Mr. Thompson, age 58, is the Group President and Executive Office Member
of Caterpillar, Inc. with administrative responsibility for the gas turbine
and reciprocating engine business, as well as corporate research and
development activities.
    Mr. Centanni said, "I would like to express my appreciation for the

forward to his active participation on the Board in the coming years.  I am
