NEW YORK, Nov. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- It's (still) the economy. Financial
Planning Interactive today released the preliminary results of its latest
weekly Web survey, in which the nation's financial advisers were asked not who
they'd vote for -- but which candidate's economic vision would best serve
their clients' financial plans.
The poll drew a record number of responses; by midday, Vice President Al
Gore and Texas Governor George W. Bush were locked in a dead heat with 48%
each, paralleling recent voter polls. Pat Buchanan and Ralph Nader, also
included on the ballot, were tied with 1% each.
According to Jennifer Lea Reed, editorial director of FP Interactive, the
activity surrounding the poll highlights both the responsiveness of FP
Interactive visitors and the wide range of their concerns. "The high turnout
is an indication of what is at stake in this election for financial planners
and their clients," Reed said.
"It's also interesting how planners are split between what are basically
two fiscally moderate candidates. 2001 will be a watershed year -- retirement
plans, 401(k)s and IRAs, social security, pension reform -- there's a lot on
the table," she added, citing a story in the November issue of Financial
Planning magazine ("Equal Benefits for All") that argues a truly meaningful
change to the Social Security system requires more than either Bush or Gore
proposes.
