PITTSBURGH, July 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Closure of the Liberty Avenue on-ramp
to the Fort Pitt Bridge has been postponed to Monday, August 2, to coincide
with the opening of the Tenth Street Bypass on-ramp to the Fort Pitt Bridge,
the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) today announced.
"The Tenth Street Bypass is the major detour for the Liberty Avenue ramp
construction," said Ray Hack, PennDOT District Engineer. "Keeping it open
minimizes inconvenience for motorists and reduces congestion in the Downtown
area."
Liberty Avenue on-ramp construction initially was scheduled to begin
July 28, as part of the phased, five-year Fort Pitt Bridge and Tunnel
Rehabilitation project.
In addition to the Tenth Street Bypass, motorists also will be advised to
use Stanwix Street to Fort Pitt Boulevard to gain access to the Fort Pitt
Bridge during the Liberty Avenue construction, which is expected to last about
90 days.
Although the on-ramp will be completely open to traffic, portions of the
Tenth Street Bypass will be restricted on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.,
beginning August 2.
