NTT Comware Standardizes on Rational Unified Process and Unified Change Management Across Entire 4,000-Person Software Development Organization

Rational Software (Nasdaq: RATL) today announced that NTT Comware Corp., one
of the largest systems integrators in Japan, has standardized on the Rational
Unified Process(R) and Unified Change Management (UCM) for all software
development projects across its entire 4,000-person development organization.

    UCM is Rational's best practices process for managing change from
requirements to release.  UCM is enabled by Rational(R) ClearCase(R) and
Rational(R) ClearQuest(R), Rational's market-leading software configuration
management solution, and is a key component of the Rational Unified Process.
UCM defines a consistent, activity-based process for managing change that
teams can apply to their development projects.
    NTT Comware has conducted four pilot projects with Rational's tools and
the Rational Unified Process since 2001.  Based on the success of these
projects, NTT Comware has adopted the Rational Unified Process, Rational
ClearCase and Rational ClearQuest across its enterprise.  NTT Comware also
will utilize a localized version of Rational's Web-based training on the
Rational Developer Network(SM) (http://www.rational.net/) to help improve its
productivity with Rational's solutions.
