PTC Pro/ENGINEER(R) Wildfire(TM) New Features Enable Fold-a-Cover to Seize Market Opportunity

NEEDHAM, Mass., Nov. 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- PTC (Nasdaq: PMTC), the
product development company(TM), today announced that FoldaCover, a major
manufacturer of truck-bed protection and storage systems, has purchased its
new Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire Foundation Advantage package to design a new type of
pickup truck cover for a major auto manufacturer.
Fold-a-Cover, a division of Steffens Enterprises, Inc., makes the market's
only hard truck cover designed to provide total access as well as security for
all major types of pick-up truck. The unique, four-fold design allows for
opening one or more panels, or stacking all four to open the entire bed
without obscuring the driver's rear view. The cover is lockable with access
from the first or forth panel for front or rear loading. The durable aluminum
and stainless steel covers are available for most domestic and imported trucks
and are aerodynamically designed to improve gas mileage.
"Our company has a major opportunity to develop a new type of cover for a
major manufacturer," said Fold-a-Cover design engineer Craig Mulder. "One of
our competitors had the job but failed to deliver so Fold-a-Cover got the
assignment. Given that the project is behind schedule, our customer has given
us challenging deadlines to complete the project. Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire will
be crucial to our success in designing and manufacturing the new cover."
In selecting Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire, Fold-a-Cover also evaluated Solidworks
and Autodesk Inventor offerings but found Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire superior for
surface modeling, sheetmetal applications and finite element analysis (FEA).
"Having all the applications we need built natively in Pro/ENGINEER was a key
factor to our decision. I can't imagine doing what we are doing with anything
other than Pro/ENGINEER," Mulder concluded.
"Once again, Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire demonstrates its ability to make
customers productive quickly and comprehensively," said PTC senior vice
president Brian Shepherd. "Time and time again, we see instances where our
competitors cannot even complete the tasks that Pro/ENGINEER accomplishes with
ease."
