SAN DIEGO , Nov. 5 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Devastation in the form
of fires blazed across California, forcing many families to move out of
their homes to safer ground. Some have lost their homes; many of them are
mothers with young children.

As any parent has experienced, getting the kids ready to go to the
grocery store can be a challenge. Moms, who had to pack their kids and
themselves, in order to leave home, are finding support from moms like them
-- through MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) groups, as they recover from fire
devastation.
Groups of MOPS moms in California and across the United States have
joined together to encourage, support and pray for one another during this
time of need.
When Malibu Presbyterian Church burned down, Melodi Leih, California
resident and Regional MOPS Coordinator gave her support, "I plan to help
them in whatever way possible so they can continue their MOPS program.
Please keep them in your prayers."
When more than 500,000 people evacuated their homes in San Diego
County, "several MOPS members' families had to leave their homes and seek
refuge, not in shelters, but in the homes of other MOPS member's families.
The common bond of motherhood has created a supportive community not just
for mothers of preschoolers but for families," reports Katie a MOPS leader
from Skyline Wesleyan Church. Other MOPS leaders who comprise the Northern
San Diego Council have been praying nightly -- every night at 7 p.m. -- for
families in need.
Finally, moms are supporting each other online -- gaining wisdom from
other moms who have had to evacuate:
"Moms that have to evacuate their homes with your little ones, here are
some creative ways to keep them occupied and calm: Use a pen to write games
on your arms (tic-tac-toe, hangman, crosswords, Sudoku, ect.). You can also
play silly games with sock puppets, I-Spy or rock, paper, scissors." -MOPS

"Possessions are sad to lose, but always replaceable. Stick closer to
your family and know that your fellow MOPS moms are here to encourage and
support you!" -MOPS Mom, Rebekah
Better Moms Make A Better World California pastor and best-selling
author Rick Warren (The Purpose-Driven Life) has said, "There is no more
significant group of cultural changers in the world than mothers." In the
U.S. alone there are 14.3 million mothers with children under the age of
six.
Founded in 1973, Denver-based MOPS International is a non-profit
organization that creates communities and resources to help "better moms
make a better world."
A MOPS group is a place where moms can come -- just as they are -- to
build friendships, find support and gain practical parenting strategies.
MOPS aims to encourage, equip and develop every mother of preschoolers to
realize her potential as a woman, mother and leader in the name of Jesus
Christ.
