MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Nov. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Aviron (Nasdaq: AVIR) today
announced that Mike Makris has been named vice president, controller.
Mr. Makris will oversee the company's accounting, reporting, financial
planning and analysis and cost accounting activities. He will report to Fred
Kurland, senior vice president and chief financial officer.
Mr. Makris has more than 20 years of accounting and finance experience in
the technology, aerospace and public accounting industries. Prior to joining
Aviron, he was vice president and corporate controller for P-COM, Inc., a
publicly traded manufacturer of wireless communication devices. He also spent
11 years in a series of increasingly responsible positions with United
Technologies, a Fortune 100 company, where he served as controller and
information technology manager for its chemical systems division from 1998 to
2000.
"Mike's substantial expertise is an important addition to our finance
organization as we continue to prepare Aviron for the commercialization of
FluMist(TM)," said Kurland.
A certified public accountant and certified internal auditor, Mr. Makris
earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Utah and his master's of
science in management from Purdue University.
