ATLANTA, Nov. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Powell, Goldstein, Frazer & Murphy LLP
announced today that the Firm has signed a lease to move its Atlanta office to
One Atlantic Center in Midtown.
The Atlanta-based law firm will lease approximately 190,000 square feet of
space at the landmark 50-story tower, with a lease term of 15 years. The Firm
will occupy floors 3 and 4 as well as floors 8 through 16. Financial terms of
the lease will not be disclosed.
"This choice is about selecting the building that provides us with the
best opportunity to evolve and lay the foundation for our overall future
growth plans," said Jim McAlpin, Chairman-Elect of Powell, Goldstein, Frazer &
Murphy. "We are excited about these prospects. The building is a perfect fit
for our long-term goals."
Armin G. Brecher, the current Chairman of Powell, Goldstein, Frazer &
Murphy, emphasized that the Firm will stay engaged in community and civic
activities throughout the city, including its historical participation in
those organizations focused on downtown Atlanta. "Our Firm will remain part
of the community fabric, including our historical commitment to downtown,"
said Mr. Brecher, adding that he would remain on the boards of Central Atlanta
Progress and the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Brecher also said
"the commitment that One Atlantic Center's owner, Sumitomo Life Realty, made
to our Firm in the planning for our needs was done in a true spirit of
partnership for our Atlanta facility."
One Atlantic Center, a 50-story, 1.1-million-square-foot building, was
designed by internationally renowned architects Philip Johnson and John
Burgee. Not since the building's initial lease-up in 1987 has this trophy
asset been able to accommodate a tenant the size of Powell, Goldstein, Frazer
& Murphy.
"Powell, Goldstein, Frazer & Murphy's decision to lease space at One
Atlantic Center is an excellent example of discriminating tenants who
appreciate the benefits of officing in one of the finest buildings in the
country," commented Cynthia Alexander, Senior Vice President of the project's
owner, Sumitomo Life Realty (N.Y.), Inc. "We are pleased to partner with
Powell, Goldstein, Frazer & Murphy in their ongoing support of the City of
Atlanta."
Powell Goldstein currently employs approximately 500 people in its Atlanta
office in 190,000 square feet of space at the 191 Peachtree Tower and 230
Peachtree Street buildings in downtown Atlanta.
Duncan Gibbs of The Staubach Company assisted Powell Goldstein in the
transaction. Audrey B. Windsor, Senior Vice President of Jones Lang LaSalle,
represented One Atlantic Center.
Earlier this year, the Firm signed a lease for 85,000 sq. ft. at 901 New
York Avenue in Washington, D.C. as lead tenant in this new building. The
Washington property is being developed by Boston Properties, Inc., which, Mr.
Brecher added, "was also a collaborative partner in the transaction."
