IRVINE, Calif., Nov. 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Beginning today,
Gateway's professional customers now have more choices in powerful yet
energy-efficient servers, with the availability of three new rackmount
systems featuring second generation AMD(R) Opteron(TM) processors. It is
the first time Gateway has offered AMD (NYSE: AMD) processors in its server
line. They will be on display at the industry's premier virtualization
technology conference, VMware's VMworld 2006, Nov. 7-9 at the Los Angeles
Convention Center, in booth # 503.
The new dual-core 1U, 2U and 3U rackmount systems round out Gateway's
line of new servers, which were unveiled in September. The Opteron-based
servers will be built at Gateway's U.S.-based configure-to-order facility
in Nashville.
Featuring Gateway's exclusive industrial design, the new 1U, 2U and 3U
servers include leading serviceability elements, integrated RAID, Gateway
Lights Out (GLO) system management and optional low-cost remote control
K/V/M (keyboard, video, mouse). They also support both SAS and SATA II hard
drives in the same system.
Designed to handle a wide variety of business applications, the
powerful technologies and scalability features make them ideal for large,
demanding office environments, but they are also cost-effective solutions
for small- and medium-sized businesses.

Gateway(R) E-9422R 1U Rack Server
The E-9422R is Gateway's first 1U rack-optimized server platform
featuring support for up to two of the latest dual-core AMD Opteron(TM)
2000 Series processors and NVIDIA(R) MCP55 Pro chipset. It can also be
equipped with optional AMD Opteron HE processors, which provide excellent
CPU performance per watt for lower power servers that can cost less to run
and save air-conditioning costs. The E-9422R provides excellent performance
capabilities in a mid-range server platform, bringing leading-edge features
in a compact 1U space at a competitive price.
The AMD64 computing platform offers exceptional x86 virtualization
capabilities to help optimize performance of VMware(R) ESX and Microsoft(R)
Virtual Server 2005 applications. The system efficiency of AMD's Direct
Connect Architecture combined with an integrated memory controller provides
efficient isolation of virtual machine memory for improved virtual machine
performance and security.
The Gateway E-9422R is Input/Output (I/O) optimized with four
integrated 10/100/1000 GbE Network Interface Cards (NIC), helping with load
balancing and distributing processing and communications activity. It also
supports up to 32GB of ECC DDR2 memory.
Highly expansive with room for four 3.5-inch hot-swap SAS or SATA II
hard drives, it has a storage capacity of up to 3.0TB(1) with SATA II
drives.
Gateway(R) E-9522R 2U Rack Server
The Gateway E-9522R Server is Gateway's advanced 2U rack-optimized
server platform featuring the latest dual-core AMD Opteron 2000 Series
processors and the NVIDIA MCP55 Pro chipset. Like the Opteron-based E-9422R
1U rack server, the E-9522R can also be equipped with optional AMD Opteron
HE processors, which are designed for increased power efficiency and
reduced electricity costs.
This new server brings exceptional I/O performance with four NICs, six
SAS or SATA II hard drives and five PCI slots.
It offers exceptional expansion with room for six 3.5-inch, hot-swap
SAS or SATA II hard drives. Utilizing SATA II drives, the E-9522R has a
storage capacity of up to 4.5TB(1).
Gateway E-9722R 3U Rack Server
The Gateway E-9722R Server is Gateway's 3U ultra-dense rack server
powered by up to four dual-core AMD Opteron 8000 Series processors and the
NVIDIA MCP55 Pro chipset. The E-9722R can also be outfitted with optional
AMD Opteron HE processors, which are designed for higher power efficiency
and lower electricity costs.
This server's architecture offers excellent x86 virtualization
capabilities to help optimize performance of VMware GSX and Microsoft
Virtual Server 2005 applications. The system efficiency of AMD's Direct
Connect Architecture combined with an integrated memory controller provides
efficient isolation of virtual machine memory for improved performance and
security. This server is ideal as a VMware virtual server to consolidate
multiple server activities, and for high-performance database (Oracle and
Microsoft SQL) and ERP-level business applications.

New Servers Offer Enhanced Serviceability, Integrated Management, Low
Cost K/V/M and Compelling Top-of-the-Line Technologies
The new Opteron-based servers feature enhanced serviceability, leading
integrated management and K/V/M technology, SAS and SATA II hard drives,
integrated RAID and redundant hot swap fans and power supplies.
Tool-free chassis', tool-free motherboards and color-coded components
streamline deployment and support. In addition, all models share components
including RAID daughter cards, drive carriers and system management.
Bringing a high level of efficiency to IT departments, Gateway Lights
Out (GLO) system management allows customers to remotely shut down and
re-start their server regardless of power condition. An optional low-cost
remote control K/V/M with media redirect features enables IT managers to
take full remote control of a server.
Customers can also use Gateway's System Management Integrated LCD
(SMIL)(2) to monitor a server's health and operating status. This powerful
optional add-on simply hot plugs to the front of the server and displays
vital statistics on a full-color, easy-to-read LCD panel.
