UTC Shows Innovative Technologies at Greenbuild Conference & Expo

    CHICAGO, Nov. 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Fuel cell-powered hybrid
buses, "green" fire suppression systems, environmentally sound refrigerants
and elevators with regenerative drives are among the innovative products
that United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX) is presenting at this week's
2007 Greenbuild International Conference & Expo.
    UTC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer George David will address the
expo, which is sponsored annually by the U.S. Green Building Council. A
zero- emission bus operated by CTTRANSIT in Hartford, Connecticut, and
equipped with a UTC Power fuel cell powerplant is on display Nov. 7 and 8
at Gate #42 at the West Building at McCormick Place. UTC, a founding member
of the council, also is donating $1 million for development of an advanced
educational Web site to bring green construction practices to a worldwide
audience.

the energy efficiency and reduce the environmental footprint of the

    UTC's exhibition booth, No. 1518, is made with several reusable
materials including carpet tiles from 74 percent recycled content,
renewable bamboo hardwood, and countertops with 30 percent recycled
materials. Following the show, UTC will donate arborvitae trees and teak
park benches used in the exhibit to the Chicago Botanic Gardens.

    Carrier
    Carrier provides a broad range of market-leading products that

    Otis Elevator Company
    Otis' Gen2(R) machine-roomless elevator system incorporates gearless
permanent magnet motors that reduce energy usage by up to 50 percent
compared to geared machines. The Gen2 system has unique patented flat,
polyurethane- coated steel belts to hoist the elevator car. These belts
require no additional lubrication, making them more efficient and cleaner
for the environment. Otis has sold more than 100,000 Gen2 systems, making
the system the fastest-selling product in the company's history.
    Otis is also displaying ReGen(TM) drives -- a product that draws energy
from a fully loaded descending elevator or lightly loaded ascending car,
converts it to electricity, and returns it to a building's power grid for
reuse. When a ReGen drive and Gen2 elevator are combined, the system can
deliver energy savings up to 75 percent compared to geared systems with
non- regenerative drives.
    During the past decade, Otis reduced its energy and water consumption
by 60 percent. Otis recently opened the world's first green elevator
manufacturing facility in China's Tianjin Economic-Development Area (TEDA).
The facility was built to the USGBC's LEED Gold Standards. Recently, Fast
Company magazine listed Otis' ReGen drive and Gen2 elevator system among

    UTC Fire & Security
    UTC Fire & Security has a growing global portfolio of green
technologies, including the Hi-Fog fire suppression system that uses
specially designed nozzles to decrease the size of each water droplet and
uses less water than conventional sprinkler systems.
    Other green fire suppression products include the Kidde Novec
extinguishing system, which uses heat absorption and molecular level
chemistry to rapidly put out fires. The product has a low global warming
potential rating of one, an ozone-depleting potential of zero and an
atmospheric lifetime of only five days.
    Additionally, UTC Fire & Security's energy management system uses
sensors to detect a room's occupancy, adjusting energy use accordingly.
This reduces energy consumption by an average of 35 percent or more.
    UTC Power
    A zero-emission bus operated by CTTRANSIT in Hartford, Connecticut, and
equipped with a UTC Power fuel cell powerplant is on display Nov. 7 and 8
at Gate #42 at the West Building at McCormick Place. Benefits of fuel cell-
powered hybrid buses include zero harmful tailpipe emissions, smooth and
quiet operation and fuel efficiency nearly two times that of a standard
diesel- powered bus. The clean operation has an immediate positive impact
on street- level emissions.
    UTC Power has provided fuel cell power plants for fleet transportation
in the United States and Europe since 1998. The company is also a world
leader in fuel cells for on-site power and develops combined cooling,
heating and power systems for the distributed energy market.
