Agreement Leverages Electric Lightwave's Extensive Long Haul Network, Which
Traverses Many Rural Areas, to Provide Wenatchee Businesses an Alternate
Telecommunications Provider to GTE; Companies Expect to Roll Out Service Next
Year to Moses Lake, Yakima and Tri-Cities
WENATCHEE, Wash., Nov. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Northwest Telephone Inc. and
Electric Lightwave Inc. (Nasdaq: ELIX) today announced an agreement that will
enable Northwest Telephone to offer high-speed, high-tech telecommunications
services to businesses in Wenatchee and in the future to other central and
eastern Washington communities.
The services, which include feature-rich telecommunication services, plus
data transport and Internet connectivity, are expected to be available in
Wenatchee during the first quarter of 2000.

The three-year contract between Northwest Telephone and Electric Lightwave
is valued at more than $600,000.

Northwest Telephone's network in Wenatchee will ride on Electric
Lightwave's Synchronous Optical Network (SONET) long haul fiber optic backbone
system that can transmit 2.4 gigabits of data per second, or the equivalent of
the entire contents of the Library of Congress in less than a minute.
