MORRISTOWN, N.J., Nov. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Bayer Corporation is advising
consumers that Alka-Seltzer Plus Liqui-Gels and Alka-Seltzer antacid/pain
relief products do not and have never contained phenylpropanolamine (PPA). In
light of the FDA's announcement on Monday, November 6th, Bayer Corporation
yesterday began voluntarily discontinuing U.S. marketing of all Alka-Seltzer
Plus effervescent cold/cough products containing PPA.
"Alka-Seltzer Plus enjoys one of the greatest brand loyalties. We want to
assure consumers that Alka-Seltzer Plus Liqui-Gel products, which do not
contain PPA, can provide the same effective relief they have come to expect
from our other cough/cold products," said Timothy Hayes, Bayer Consumer Care
Region Head, North America. Hayes adds that Bayer looks forward to
introducing reformulated effervescent cough/cold products as soon as possible
in 2001.
The company also advises that its new Aleve Cold & Sinus medicine does not
contain PPA.
