High Linearity Achieved For Pushita Measuring Clinical Range Of
Cholesterol - Pushita(TM) Is Painless And Requires No Blood For Measurement Of
Cholesterol
ST. LOUIS, Nov. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- MicroSense International, LLC, a
development stage privately held medical device company, announced today the
completion of the first linearity experiments utilizing the proprietary
chemistry system employed in Pushita(TM), an innovative, bloodless, painless,
minimally invasive technology to measure cholesterol over the range of 25mg/dl
to 300mg/dl. The Company reported a correlation of over 0.97 for Pushita(TM)
and a high degree of linearity. These results suggest Pushita(TM) will be
capable of measuring the full clinical range of cholesterol utilizing the
unique features of this technology.
Pushita(TM) measures biological markers present in the interstitial fluid
(ISF). MicroSense has targeted large chronic disease populations requiring
constant spot monitoring, including diabetes, congestive heart failure (CHF),
kidney disease, and clinical depression.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, an estimated 100,870,000
American adults have total blood cholesterol levels of 200 milligrams per
deciliter (mg/dl) and higher. About 40,600,000 American adults have levels of
240 mg/dl or above. In adults, total cholesterol levels of 240 mg/dl or
higher are considered high risk. Levels from 200 to 239 mg/dl are considered
borderline-high risk.
The first clinical application for Pushita(TM) is the measurement of
glucose in the diabetic patient. Current technology requires blood samples in
order to determine the concentration of glucose. Pushita(TM) measurements are
painless and do not require the lancing of the finger, a painful procedure
required by patients to provide a blood sample for measurement utilizing
current technology. By measuring ISF at the forefinger, Pushita(TM) is
intended to address reported glucose measurement deficiencies in currently
available blood glucose meters, which rely on measurements from sites other
than the forefinger ("alternate sites").
Erick Raskas, President and Founder, remarked, "We are thrilled to
demonstrate our ability to detect cholesterol utilizing our technology. We are
moving to repeat our initial successes in glucose measurements via a patient
feedback trial comparing Pushita(TM) measurements of cholesterol to blood
techniques on the market today."
William Edelman, Chairman and CEO for MicroSense, stated, "Our business
model is exciting and generating substantial interest from the investment
community. Each of our target markets is substantial and growing, with
patients requiring daily spot measurements of a variety of biological markets.
Pushita(TM) is uniquely positioned to provide the patient a safe, painless and
simple method of determining levels of critical biological markers necessary
for maintenance of quality of life."
