More Than 6,000 Participate in First Round Of The World's Largest Computer Game Tournament

               ***Registration Still Open for Final Weekend Of
                 Competition and Chance to Win Grand Prize***

     WHAT:     With the final weekend of competition still to come, more than
               6,000 gamers of all ages participated in the first round of the
               Gateway Country Challenge, competing for the fastest time on
               Microsoft's urban racing game, Midtown Madness 2.  Registration
               is still open at all 320 Gateway Country stores in North
               America and at http://www.gateway.com.

     WHO:      posted the times to beat?  The best first round times
               nationally in each age group:

                AGE GROUP                              TIME
                19 and up          1 minute, 32 seconds, 16 milliseconds
                  14-18            1 minute, 34 seconds, 23 milliseconds
                  10-13            1 minute, 36 seconds, 54 milliseconds
                   6-9             1 minute, 48 seconds, 48 milliseconds

               Contestants from the first weekend can try to post their
               highest score again during the second round this weekend.  Only
               their highest score will be counted.  Participants are
               encouraged to check their ranking at http://www.gateway.com.

               To encourage participation by all family members, the Gateway
               Country Challenge is broken into four age groups.  In each age
               group 570 prizes will be awarded -- 2,280 winners will receive
               prizes ranging in value from $50-$8,000.  In total, more than
               $300,000 in prizes will be presented.  The top 250 scores in
               each age group nationwide will receive a prize.  Contestants
               who participate in only the second weekend will be eligible to
               win the grand prize in each of four age groups -- a certificate
               for the purchase of a personalized Gateway PC powered by the
               new Intel(R) Pentium 4 processor and $5,000.

     WHEN:     Saturday, Nov. 11 and Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000, Noon - 6 p.m.
