CarrAmerica Announces Groundbreaking for Shakespeare Theatre's Sidney Harman Hall/Headquarters Office Building for Bricklayers Union in Downtown Washington, D.C.

    WASHINGTON, Nov. 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- CarrAmerica Realty
Corporation (NYSE: CRE) today announced the groundbreaking for a new mixed-use
development at 610/620 F Street, NW, across F Street from the MCI Arena.  The
complex project, owned in a joint venture by The Shakespeare Theatre and The
International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers (BAC), will house
the 800-seat Sidney Harman Hall, which, along with the 450-seat Lansburgh
Theatre nearby, will form The Harman Center for the Arts, home to The
Shakespeare Theatre.  Headquarters offices for BAC will occupy the office
floors above the theatre.  CarrAmerica Urban Development, LLC, a CarrAmerica
subsidiary, is the Project Developer, teaming with J.M. Zell Partners as the
Owner Project Manager and Clark Construction as the General Contractor. Sidney
Harman Hall is scheduled for completion in the Spring of 2007 with BAC's
headquarters scheduled for completion in December 2006.

    Designed by Washington, D.C.-based architectural firm SmithGroup, Inc. and
Toronto-based architect Diamond and Schmitt Architects, Inc., the theatre,
which will occupy the first five floors of the building, will showcase an
entrance featuring a dramatic three-story glass bay projecting eight feet over
the sidewalk below, creating a stunning marquee inviting theatergoers into the
lobby.  The BAC headquarters, occupying the uppermost six floors of the
building with space totaling approximately 120,000 square feet, will have a
separate entrance through an elegant wintergarden between the new building and
CarrAmerica's adjacent Terrell Place development.
    CarrAmerica is currently developing projects in Washington, D.C. for third
parties and joint ventures in which CarrAmerica has an interest, with an
estimated total value of $1 billion. In addition to The Shakespeare
Theatre/BAC project, these projects include: the International Monetary Fund's
650,000-square foot office building at 1900 Pennsylvania Avenue, scheduled for
completion in the first quarter of 2005; The Atlantic Building, a 290,000-
square foot office and retail building at 950 F Street, scheduled for
completion in December 2005; the Freedom Forum/Newseum building at
Pennsylvania Avenue and Sixth Street, which will encompass museum, office and
residential components and is scheduled for completion in 2006; and the
Kennedy Center Plaza project, an eight-acre plaza expansion, which will
include two additional buildings and will be constructed over the next decade.
Completions in recent years include Terrell Place, a 476,000-square foot
office and retail complex located at the corner of Seventh and F Streets, NW,
completed in September 2003; The Residences at Terrell Place, a 29-unit
residential condominium complex, located at the corner of Seventh and E
Streets, which was completed in September 2003; 1750 H Street, a 111,000-
square foot office building completed in October 2002; 799 Ninth Street, a
201,000-square foot office building completed in November 2001; and 1201 F
Street, a 227,000-square foot office building which was completed in April
2000.
