CUPERTINO, Calif., Nov. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- The first CardioThoracic
Systems, Inc. (CTS) (Nasdaq: CTSI) Advanced CORiculum(TM) Institute Workshop
was held at Buffalo General Hospital, State University of New York on October
27-28. The program, which attracted over 50 surgeons (novice to expert) from
across the nation, addressed the expanding techniques for multi-vessel, off-
pump coronary artery bypass graft surgery.
The CTS Advanced CORiculum Institute workshop provides cardiovascular
teams (surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nurses) the opportunity to learn new,
advanced techniques in the less invasive revascularization procedures
utilizing CTS instrumentation. Workshop Directors, Jacob Bergsland, MD and
Tomas Salerno, MD along with invited faculty Antonio Calafiore, MD and Erik
Fosse, MD covered topics such as patient selection, surgical techniques, peri-
and post-operative patient management, hybrid revascularization and clinical
results.
In addition to the lectures, Drs. Calafiore and Bergslund performed four
live MIDCAB(TM) (Minimally Invasive Direct Coronary Artery Bypass) cases and
three LISA(TM) (Less Invasive Surgical Approach) operations utilizing the CTS
Access MV(TM) System. LISA is a beating heart technique developed by the
course faculty, which addresses multi-vessel bypass. Attendees were able to
watch the procedures via closed circuit television with the ability to
interact and ask questions of the surgeons on a real-time basis.
Other CST Advanced CORiculum centers include Washington Hospital Center,
Columbia Medical City Dallas, Indiana Heart Institute at St. Vincent's
Hospital and Columbia Centennial Medical Center. For a schedule of future CTS
