PG Energy's Gas Rates Decrease by 9.6% for Winter of 1997-1998

    WILKES-BARRE, Pa., Nov. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- PG Energy's request to reduce
its gas cost rate was approved by the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission
(PPUC) and will become effective December 1, 1997. Residential heating
customers will see a 9.63% savings from the currently effective rates.
William Eckert, Director of Gas Supply for PG Energy, states, "The Company
files annual gas cost rates with the Public Utility Commission and this
reduction reflects PG Energy's lower gas and transportation costs from its
suppliers which are passed on to customers. PG Energy exercises prudent gas
cost management and purchasing practices to provide customers with an adequate
supply of gas at the least possible cost, based on projected seasonal loads."
PG Energy's Director of Marketing, Bruce Davis said, "Natural gas has
always been one of the most efficient and economical energy choices for both
homeowners and businesses. We are pleased to be able to offer our customers
this rate reduction prior to the colder winter months." The new rates
translate into a decrease of $96.00 in the annual bill of an average
residential heating customer using 1445 CCFs of natural gas per year. Rates
for the average non-heating natural gas customer using 180 CCF's will decrease
by $12.00 per year.
