Broadcast Pioneer Lou Dobbs to Serve as Master of Ceremonies for Business News Luminaries of the Century Awards Dinner

    NEW YORK, Nov. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Lou Dobbs, who helped set the standard
for business news on television, will serve as master of ceremonies for the
TJFR Group/ MasterCard International Business News Luminaries of the Century
Awards dinner.
    The recognition dinner, to be held March 10, 2000 in the grand ballroom of
the Waldorf-Astoria in New York, will honor 100 of the most important and
influential business journalists and news executives of the century.  The
black-tie event, hosted by PR Newswire, will bring together members of the
entire business journalism community, past and present.
    Dobbs, currently chairman and CEO of space.com, holds the distinction of
being the only anchor on television who also was a corporate executive,
serving as executive vice president of CNN, president of CNNfn, and a member
of the network's executive committee.  He founded CNNfn and CNNfn.com, the
first programming services to launch simultaneously on television and the
Internet.  Dobbs anchored CNN's award-winning "Moneyline with Lou Dobbs."
Candidates for the awards were nominated between September 15 and October 31
by members of the news media as well as avid business news consumers.  More
than 200 journalists were nominated, ranging from Ida Tarbell and Clarence
Barron in the early 1900s to today's cyber news entrepreneurs.  The complete

    A panel of 12 journalists, business executives, academicians and
historians will screen the nominations.  The editorial staff of TJFR Group,

    -- Marshall Loeb, columnist for CBS Marketwatch.com and former editor of
       Fortune and Money

    -- Myron Kandel, financial editor of CNN

    -- Herb Kelleher, chairman, president and CEO of Southwest Airlines

    -- Susan Lee, economist, author and National Public Radio commentator
