Offers New Knowledge Centers, New Exchanges and Additional Web-based Training
LEXINGTON, Mass., Nov. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Rational Software (Nasdaq: RATL)
announced today that the Rational Developer Network(SM) is now available to
all Rational customers with an with an active support contract, providing
software developers access to four new Knowledge Centers, two new Exchanges,
and additional Web-based training.
Rational Developer Network is a Web site that provides targeted content
and skill-building resources to Rational customers, increasing their
development efficiency and mastery of Rational's tools and best practices.
The Rational Developer Network, which is continuously updated, has added
50 percent more content since its launch in June 2001. The Rational Developer
Network members form an active online community, with nearly 60 percent of
users returning to the site more than four times per week.
These enhancements to the Rational Developer Network
(http://www.rational.net) were announced today in conjunction with Rational
Suite(R) v2002. Additional information on Rational Suite v2002 is available
at: http://www.rational.com/announcing2002.jsp.
"I regularly utilize the Rational Developer Network by participating in
both discussion forums and publishing online articles," said Scott Barber,
senior performance engineer for Noblestar. "This enables me to communicate
and share my experiences with a large community of software engineers with
similar interests. Through answering questions and debating pertinent topics,
I have refined my ideas and methodologies more than I could have done on my
own, and have made contacts that have led to new business for Noblestar."
Four new Knowledge Centers on the Rational Developer Network offer
subject-specific content on technology, with related artifacts for download.
This expands the resources available to Rational Developer Network members and
covers a broader set of tools, guidance and technologies. Rational has added
additional Knowledge Centers that are specifically focused on Rational(R)
RequisitePro(R), Rational Testing Tools, Rational(R) ClearQuest(R), and
architecture design best practices from the IEEE Computer Society, a
professional association that seeks to be the leading provider of technical
information and services to the world's computing professionals.
With these four new Knowledge Centers, Rational is now offering a total of
15 Knowledge Centers.
"We launched the Rational Developer Network to provide our customers with
a comprehensive resource for information on software development best
practices," said Dan Shiffman, senior vice president of the Intellectual
Property Group for Rational Software. "Now we've expanded the content and are
making it accessible to a larger group of developers. The content that we
offer on the Rational Developer Network has proved to be valuable to our
customers. We believe the enhancements announced today, and our continued
improvements in the quality and quantity of information offered through this
online community, will help broaden the community and bring existing members
back over and over again."
Rational has also introduced a new offering called Rational Exchanges.
Rational Exchanges, which are now available for the Rational Unified
Process(R) and Rational(R) Development Accelerators, provide an online
community for customers to locate, contribute, and download best practices and
reusable artifacts. These best practices and artifacts can then be used with
Rational tools to help customers build software faster and better.
The Rational Development Accelerators Exchange offers a range of assets,
including a J2EE Process Primer, a new Asset Browser for Rational Rose(R) and
new reference assets. Rational Development Accelerators, formerly known as
e-development Accelerators(TM), is a broad initiative from Rational that helps
improve productivity, consistency and predictability by providing customers
with proven, reusable software assets that enable them to leverage development
artifacts from one project to the next. Additional information on Rational
Development Accelerators is available at:
http://www.rational.com/rda/index.jsp.
The assets available on the Rational Development Accelerators Exchange
conform with the Reusable Asset Specification (RAS). The RAS Consortium is an
industry-supported association for enabling the supply, management and
consumption of reusable software assets. The Asset Browser lets users browse
and apply RAS-compliant assets, helping create and reinforce an industry
standard for asset use and management.
Rational has also introduced two new reference assets to help guide
developers and enhance their productivity. The large grain asset is a
substantial Web-based auction application, complete with models, code, process
guidance, and best practices. The small-grain asset is an implementation of a
paged dynamic list mechanism, an asset that manages large lists of data in Web
applications. Rational created these to demonstrate how to develop live,
working reusable assets that conform to the RAS. An instance of the Web-based
auction asset is available as Pearl Circle Online Auction. This is a running
demonstration, available at: http://www.pearlcircle.com.
Rational Developer Network also provides additional Web-based training
courses for the Rational Unified Process, Rational(R) ClearCase(R) and
Rational ClearQuest. Until January 18, 2002, all Rational
University-developed Web-based training will be available to all Rational
Developer Network members for no cost. These Web-based training courses
provide customers with the foundation knowledge they need to more quickly
adopt Rational's tools.
Pricing and Availability
The Rational Developer Network is now available as an added benefit to all
Rational customers with an active support contract.
