LEXINGTON, Mass., Nov. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Number Nine Visual Technology
Corp. (Nasdaq: NINE), a leader in high-performance PC graphics solutions,
today announced that the company's flagship 128-bit Revolution 3D graphics
accelerator has won it's third Editors' Choice in less than a week. In just
released US and International issues of Byte Magazine, the Revolution 3D won
Byte Magazines Annual 1997 Editors' Choice Award of Distinction. This
internationally recognized and promoted award came one day following the
announcement that PC Magazine awarded Editors' Choice Award's to the
Revolution 3D as Best Graphics Accelerator in a roundup of 32 products and to
a Revolution 3D equipped NEC(R) Direction(TM) SPL266 which won the Editors'
Choice in a hotly contested roundup of 52 Professional / Enthusiast desktop
PCs (see Number Nine related press release dated Nov. 11, 1997).
Byte Magazine's editors reviewed more than 1,000 hardware and software
products during the previous 12 months. Only 40 were selected as Editors'
Choice Award winners. The Revolution 3D was the only graphics accelerator to
win a Byte Magazine's Editors' Choice Award of Distinction. These award
winners were noted as "having raised the bar with innovative technology or
features or a remarkable price".
In the December, 1997 issue of Byte Magazine, Jerry Pournelle, columnist
for the magazines monthly Chaos Manor wrote, "Indeed, at $300, it (the
Revolution 3D) may be the best way to upgrade your system". In the First
Looks stand-alone review of the board (Byte Magazine, Nov., 1997) entitled
"Number Nine's New Spin: Revolution 3D", the board was noted as running
circles around the competition, having spectacular 2-D performance, similarly
impressive video and MPEG playback and good 3-D. The review resulted in the
Revolution 3D earning a 5-STAR Technical Rating.
Byte Magazine first viewed the Revolution 3D in June, 1997 at it's launch
at PC Expo. At the show, the board won the prestigious Byte Magazine Best of
PC Expo '97 Award for Best Multimedia Hardware. It was the only graphics
accelerator at the show to win this honor. The Revolution 3D was selected for
having a groundbreaking combination of no-compromise performance and
affordability.
Number Nine's award winning Revolution 3D accelerator, based upon its
third generation "Ticket To Ride(TM)" graphics accelerator chip, features an
uncompromised combination of 3D, Windows and MPEG performance capabilities.
Supporting both Direct3D(TM) and OpenGL(R) 3D acceleration with a dedicated
128-bit 3D engine and a 650-MFLOPS (million floating point operations per
second) 3D setup engine, the Revolution 3D also delivers leading Windows NT
4.0 performance.
