NEW YORK, NY USA
MALVERN, Pa., Nov. 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Siemens Medical Solutions
has received two prestigious healthcare industry awards from growth consulting
firm Frost & Sullivan. The healthcare technology company received The 2002
Total Solutions Provider of the Year and the 2002 Hospital Information Systems
Vendor of the Year awards at the Frost & Sullivan 2002 Market Engineering
Presentation.

The Total Solutions Provider of the Year award is based on Frost &
Sullivan's industry evaluation of product and service offerings. Companies'
total solutions are analyzed based on the total number of product segments
offered, total number of ancillary services provided, and demonstrated
commitment to continual expansion. Siemens earned this award based on its
strong leadership in the broadest range of segments in the medical imaging
industry, and for its vast line of imaging systems combined with information
systems and services that surround and support imaging products. Siemens was
also recognized for its achievements in increasing efficiency for healthcare
providers with its syngo(R) common operating system for all of its modalities,
and enhanced picture archiving and communications system (PACS) connectivity.
Siemens Health Services, the company's healthcare information technology
division, received the Hospital Information System Vendor of the Year award
for being the market share leader by gross revenues. According to Frost &
Sullivan research, Siemens has established itself firmly as the number one
choice provider for both clinical and administrative hospital information
systems applications. The organization believes Siemens has strong potential
to convert many current customers to the new Soarian(TM) healthcare
information system once beta testing is complete, many of whom wish to
continue with Siemens information systems.
Frost & Sullivan also recognized Siemens' industry-leading Information
Services Center (ISC) -- the first data management hub of its kind and scale
for healthcare. Frost & Sullivan expects to see an emerging trend toward data
outsourcing in the hospital industry over the next decade, and believes that
Siemens will be a catalyst for this trend by continuing to demonstrate its
security measures under actual HIPAA enforceable conditions.
"Given the early stage traction that Siemens has achieved with Soarian, we
can be left with little doubt that it will continue to achieve success in the
inpatient market, especially with the ASP market that is expected to drive
demand for archived clinical solution sets and image-driven applications such
as PACS," says Amith Viswanathan, Frost & Sullivan senior industry analyst.
"Siemens' dual strengths in the HIS and medical imaging industries, supported
by compatible platforms such as syngo will add to their continued success in
providing total solutions to these rapidly converging market sectors," adds
Viswanathan.
"Siemens is the only company that has effectively combined medical and
information technology to increase quality of care and lower costs for
healthcare providers. The fact that both areas of leadership are being
formally recognized with these awards is proof of our leadership in using
technology to improve clinical and administrative workflow," said Dr. Erich R.
Reinhardt, president and CEO of Siemens Medical Solutions.
In addition to these U.S. awards, Siemens Medical Solutions was also
recently named the Market Engineering Award winner for the Frost & Sullivan
European Hospital Information Systems market. It was recognized for building
end-user confidence, reliance, and partnerships, which has played a major role
in its differentiation from competitors.
