Construction Writers Association Presents 2006 Website and Electronic Communications Awards

BUFFALO GROVE, Ill., Nov. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- The Construction Writers
Association recently presented its ninth annual Website Awards at the
organization's Midyear Meeting in Chicago. This year, in response to
expanding use of digital communications beyond the website -- HTML
newsletters, podcasts, wikis, blogs, etc. -- a new category was added for
electronic communications. Entries from construction-related individuals,
companies, associations, advertising agencies, public relations firms and
publications were judged on the effectiveness of their websites and
electronic communications, and on the results these tools generated for the
entrants.
The CWA Website Award winner was http://www.BDCnetwork.com, submitted by
Building Design and Construction magazine. Juror comments included: "This
site achieves the goal of being a clear news site for the design and
construction industry ... Well thought out, great navigation makes it easy
to see the range of offerings ... Definitely liked the BDC university and
the book reviews."
Receiving an Honorable Mention Website Award was http://www.cement.org,
submitted by the Portland Cement Association. According to the jurors, "Who
thought that cement could be so interesting? ... Superb organization and
clarity ... Site visitors can quickly see what specialty area or
information resource they need, and go to it ... Elegant use of graphics
and color."
The winner of the CWA Electronic Communications Award was Associated
Builders and Contractors (ABC) for its online member newsletter, Newsline.
In their comments, the jurors noted, "rich in its information and content,
the piece shows its value for ABC members ... inviting graphical layout,
impressive material provided ... ties in well to the ABC website."
The 2006 CWA Website and Electronic Communications Awards were judged
by Craig Park of Leo A. Daly, Ed Hannon of Zweig White, Beth Margulies of
the National Electrical Contractors Association, Linda Koch of The Shamrock
Companies and Mark Guarino of Guarino Design. Mike Reilly of Reilly
Communications chaired the Website and Electronic Communications Awards
Committee.
The Construction Writers Association, founded in 1958, is a non-profit,
non-partisan, international organization for professional journalists,
writers, editors, photographers, marketers and publicists serving the
information needs of the construction industry. In addition to its
journalism, marketing communications and website awards programs, CWA
provides educational and networking opportunities for its members. For more
