Sun-Netscape Alliance Unveils Solutions for Developing Internet Trading Communities

Relationships with Edifecs Commerce and Receipt.com Will Provide iPlanet(TM)
Customers With XML-Tool Set and Ability to Track and Audit E-Transactions

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Nov. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Contributing to its
strategy for enabling the industry to create and develop Internet trading
communities, the Sun-Netscape Alliance today introduced the iPlanet(TM)
TradingXpert 3.5 application to help companies build trading communities that
leverage their current technology investments. The Alliance also announced
that it is embedding technologies from Receipt.com and Edifecs Commerce into
the iPlanet commerce exchange applications to provide customers with an
enhanced ability to exchange business critical data in a secure manner and
conduct legally binding, auditable transactions over the Internet.
iPlanet ECXpert (ECXpert) and iPlanet TradingXpert (TradingXpert)
applications, the Alliance's solution for commerce exchange, are core to
enabling global 2000 companies to communicate with trading communities in
order to participate in a digital marketplace. The TradingXpert application
is ideal for enterprises looking to establish a significant return on their
investments in e-commerce-enabling software or service providers who want to
build out their current offerings in order to generate new revenue streams.
Leveraging ECXpert as the transactional-foundation for Internet
communications, companies who deploy TradingXpert 3.5 will be able to
streamline business processes with customers, partners and suppliers, and
better manage their critical business relationships to increase the
value-proposition of their e-commerce business model.
"We know that enterprises, digital marketplaces and service providers have
unique and specific commerce exchange needs, yet share the common goal of
aggressive business growth," said Jim Adkins, vice president of the
Sun-Netscape Alliance commerce exchange division. "Leveraging its heritage as
a leader in providing e-commerce software to help companies better communicate
in the Net Economy, the Alliance is delivering the most complete trading
community management solution today."
The Alliance continues to educate the industry on the key requirements for
business-to-business e-commerce such as partner and customer management
facilities, integration with both the internal and external communities, a
flexible platform for building and deploying applications and the security and
non-repudiation of critical business data. Through its flexible portfolio of
packaged e-commerce applications and its strategic relationships with
companies including Edifecs Commerce and Receipt.com, the Alliance is
providing the tools for customers to address these requirements.
The Alliance will leverage Edifecs Commerce's SpecBuilder product, the
dominant schema-authoring suite in the market, to help enable customers to
rapidly create new transaction sets for EDI, XML and other file formats that
meet diverse trading partner requirements. Additionally the Alliance will use
Edifecs Commerce's Message Validation technology, giving users the ability to
verify compliance of their partner's data files' established schemas and
message guidelines.
Leveraging technology from Receipt.com, the Alliance will deliver next
generation authentication for high value business-to-business electronic
transactions and communications. The Alliance will integrate the technology
into its commerce exchange applications to offer the infrastructure with a
defined audit trail for e-commerce transactions, which could provide a greater
level of assurance and non-repudiation even in a court of law if necessary.
"A relationship with the Alliance was a natural fit, because we share a
common vision for providing technologies that support the latest industry open
protocols and languages, such as XML, to simplify business-to-business
transactions. The ability to define and exchange schemas seamlessly between
members of a community is essential for rapid partner deployment. Alliance
customers' use of SpecBuilder will facilitate efficient partner rampup," said
Sunny Singh, chief executive officer at Edifecs Commerce.
"Together, Receipt.com and the Sun-Netscape Alliance are providing
customers with the tools to execute and secure transactions over the
Internet," said David Jevans, president and co-founder of Receipt.com. "We
are taking the traditional paper intensive process of securing business
transactions, adding the next-generation of safety and authentication
capabilities and making the solution available to companies competing in the
Net Economy."
To date, the Alliance has helped enable hundreds of companies to move
their business processes online and scale rapidly to meet the demands of
customers, partners and suppliers including: Audi, Bank of America, Bell
Atlantic, Boeing, Day-Timer Digital, Inc., drkoop.com, Inc., ExpenseVision,
FDX, First Union Corp., France Telecom, GTE, Hong Kong Telecom, John Hancock,
Interpath, KeyCorp, KLM, MCI WorldCom, EGG/Prudential, SaskTel, Travelers Life
& Annuity, Telefonica/OLE, Toronto Real Estate Board and Visteon Automotive
Systems.
Specifically, the Alliance is seeing tremendous market support for its
trading community management solution from its customers and business
partners.
TradingXpert 3.5 is a comprehensive application that helps enable trading
partners to transact business, regardless of the individual organizations'
size or technical sophistication. TradingXpert's browser-accessible functions
leverage ECXpert to automate the exchange of EDI, XML and other non-EDI
business documents, and provide connectivity to the customer's internal
applications and external trading partners. With TradingXpert, customers can
establish international trading communities, with access to the multitude of
business data dependent only on the availability of an Internet connection and
a browser.
TradingXpert 3.5 is complementary application to ECXpert and enhances the
Alliance's trading community management solution. The product includes the
following benefits.

-- With TradingXpert 3.5's new delegated administration and editing
features, new participants can register with the host-company from a Web
browser, and partners are able to edit critical business information via their
web browser.
-- The host-business' administrator can help ensure new partner adoption,
because TradingXpert 3.5 delivers email alerts directly to a target's personal
mailbox and provides reporting capabilities on partner usage.
-- Customers can leverage TradingXpert 3.5 to build collaborative business
processes with partners, suppliers and customers. The new product supports
the use of attachments to standard business documents, such as a purchase
order or invoice, and allows recipients to edit, change or make additions
before returning the revised document to the sender.
-- TradingXpert 3.5 supports the framework to develop multiple language
templates.
