JACKSON, Mich., Nov. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Consumers Energy is
restructuring its executive team as the first step in reorganizing the
utility to improve operating efficiency, reliability, and customer service,
the Company announced today.
"This new structure will help us improve customer service by making our
operations more effective, productive and flexible," said John Russell, the
utility's president and chief operating officer.
"We are eliminating our separate electric and gas business operating
structures and aligning our leadership and organizational structure along
major functional lines such as operations, construction, and engineering,"
he said, adding the new structure also will support the development of
needed new generation capacity.
Russell said the new executive structure will be implemented Dec. 1 and
full implementation of the reorganization is expected early in 2007.
The executive changes announced today are:
-- Frank Johnson, now senior vice president of electric transmission
and distribution, will become the senior vice president of energy
operations. He will have overall responsibility for the operation and
maintenance of the electric and natural gas delivery systems, including
natural gas storage.
-- Paul Preketes, now senior vice president of gas operations, will
become the senior vice president of energy delivery. He will have overall
responsibility for the engineering and planning for the utility's electric
and natural gas distribution assets to maintain safe and reliable service
to customers.
-- Robert Fenech, senior vice president of nuclear, fossil, and hydro
operations, will assume a transition leadership role, pending his
retirement in June 2007. Fenech will manage the completion of the sale of
the Palisades nuclear power plant, and will continue to represent Consumers
Energy on the Nuclear Management Company Board of Directors.
-- James Coddington, now vice president of fossil operations, becomes
vice president of generation operations. He will have overall
responsibility for the operation of all of Consumers Energy's fossil fueled
and hydroelectric generating units.
-- Jack Hanson, now the site business manager for the Campbell
Generating Complex, will become vice president of generation engineering
and services. He will have overall responsibility for engineering,
environmental, and technical support for the utility's generating units.
-- James Pomaranski, executive manager of Title I projects and
responsible for the utility's $800 million construction program to reduce
emissions at its major coal-fired units, will become vice president of
generation construction. In that role, he will be responsible for
construction project management at Consumers Energy's existing generating
plants as well as construction of new generation for the utility.
-- Ronn Rasmussen, now executive director of rates and business
support, will become the vice president of rates and regulation for the
utility.

million residents in all 68 Lower Peninsula counties.
