Demonstrations across the entire diagnostic workflow to feature innovations
that manage the surge of medical imaging data
CHELMSFORD, Mass., Nov. 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Mercury Computer
Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: MRCY) will demonstrate unparalleled advancements in
image quality and performance across the entire diagnostic workflow,
featuring the new-generation Visage(TM) product line, at the 92nd
Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting of the Radiology Society of North
America (RSNA) at McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois, November 26-30.
In an expanded, interactive exhibit space, Mercury will demonstrate how
its Visage 3D to the Core technologies, solutions, and services empower the
transformation of the medical diagnostic workflow, from end to end. From
acquisition, reconstruction, and visualization, to distribution and
management, Mercury will showcase image quality and performance
breakthroughs now required to cope with the increasing surge of data
generated from devices like multi-slice CT (computed tomography) and CT/PET
scanners, along with new clinical applications that are being introduced to
the diagnostic workflow. Mercury recently was granted clearance by the FDA
(Food and Drug Administration) to market Visage PACS and CS products as
medical devices in the United States.
Mercury is empowering the 3D transformation of the medical diagnostic
workflow
In Acquisition, dramatically improved MRI image quality and shortened
scan times are possible with a simple drop-in upgrade to existing MRI
scanners, with Visage MR. Visage MR provides greater contrast resolution in
clinical images and enhanced image quality. The upgrade enables useful
images during breath hold or cardiac timeframes for high-field scanners,
and for low-field scanners, the images produced are comparable to today's
higher-field images.
In Reconstruction, Mercury will demonstrate more than 100X improvement
in CT reconstruction performance over solutions with conventional
microprocessors, with the Mercury Cell Accelerator Board (CAB). Based on
the Cell Broadband Engine(TM) (BE) processor, the CAB is a PCI Express(R)
accelerator card and is available with optimized algorithms, and multicore
and multicomputer programming expertise from Mercury. The Cell BE
processor's extensive parallelism, along with vast I/O capabilities,
permits efficient implementation of complex CT reconstruction algorithms
with close to real-time performance. The CAB with Mercury software enables
system designers to develop medical imaging solutions that can create
images obtained from more precise algorithms, with higher quality and much
faster than ever before.
In Visualization and Distribution, Mercury will show the Visage CS Thin
Client Server solution, with stunning image quality, blazingly fast study
loading and rendering performance, and an optional Cardiac Analysis Package
that provides easy review and automatic quantification of cardiac dynamics
using 4D multi-slice CT data to assess functional parameters, as well as
coronary artery analysis. Mercury will demonstrate how these advanced
capabilities are fully integrated within the PACS workflow and accessible
by any existing reading stations or PC in the hospital enterprise --
thereby eliminating the need for expensive, dedicated 3D workstations and
the associated disruption in workflow.
And in Image Management, Mercury will demonstrate powerful new options
for multiple viewers and side-by-side comparison, as well as hanging
protocols in Visage PACS, Mercury's award-winning, web-based image
distribution system. The Visage PACS improved user interface now allows for
side-by side viewing of any number of images, with flexible viewer layouts.
Mercury is empowering medical OEMs across the globe
Mercury signed a partnership agreement with Perfint Engineering
Services Pvt. Ltd., in Chennai, India, for the distribution of Visage PACS
and Visage CS in the Southern Asian market. "We're pleased to cooperate
with Mercury to open up new markets in Southern Asia," said Kannan
Neelakanta, Director of Perfint Engineering Services. "We will integrate
Visage PACS/CS in our product portfolio, thus offering a leading-edge 3D
Thin Client Server solution that provides advanced 3D capabilities to any
PC or workstation in the hospital -- and also to remote clients."
In addition, Mercury has expanded its worldwide base of installed PACS
systems, with new installations of its web-based PACS offering. The company
reported a recent milestone with its Australian PACS partner, the Medical
Imaging PACS PTY Ltd., which will implement Visage PACS in several clinical
sites. "We can deliver a complete web-based PACS solution to our customers
that optimally supports radiological workflow," said Dr. Thomas Vargoczky,
CEO of Medical Imaging PACS PTY Ltd.
Mercury will showcase its latest Professional Services offerings for
medical OEMS and PACS dealers and distributors. Mercury's team of talented
services professionals provides comprehensive engineering, customization,
integration, consulting, and training services for a broad range of
customers and partners.
"We welcome all our medical colleagues to visit Mercury's greatly
expanded presence at RSNA," said Marcelo Lima, Vice President and General
Manager of Commercial Imaging and Visualization at Mercury. "We look
forward to showing our partners the latest advances in technology,
solutions, and services that can enable them to get better products to
market, sooner and more cost effectively."
