Construction Writers Association Honors Jenni Prokopy with Silver Hard Hat Award

BUFFALO GROVE, Ill., Nov. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Jennifer Grover Prokopy,
of Chicago, Ill., was recently honored by the Construction Writers
Association (CWA) with its highest award, the Silver Hard Hat, for her
contributions to the association. The award was presented in October at
CWA's Midyear Meeting in Chicago.
Prokopy has been an active and tireless volunteer for CWA, involving
herself with every aspect of the association. She has chaired the
journalism awards committee; hosted the World of Concrete reception for
seven straight years; served as a director, 2nd vice president, 1st vice
president and, ultimately, CWA president in 2005-6; as well as working
actively on membership, CWA's upcoming 50th anniversary, publicity and
promotions, West Coast meetings and other events. Her most notable
achievements during her tenure as president were a significant increase in
membership and the solidification of the association's sponsorship program.
A graduate of Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism,
Prokopy began her career as an assistant editor for Rock Products and
Cement Americas magazines. In 1999, she was named Media Relations Manager
for Portland Cement Association, and first became affiliated with CWA that
same year. In 2002, she founded Orange Grove Media, an independent writing
and consulting firm focused on construction.
In 2005, Prokopy started ChronicBabe.com, an online community designed
to help other young women with chronic illness benefit from her own
experience. Initially begun as a hobby, ChronicBabe.com has grown
enormously, becoming an invaluable resource for thousands of young women.
This past summer, Prokopy began devoting full time to the website, and has
become a much sought-after writer, editor, consultant and public speaker on
issues related to healthy living.
The Construction Writers Association, founded in 1958, is a non-profit,
non-partisan, international organization for professional journalists,
