PITTSBURGH, Nov. 16, 2000 /PRNewswire/ -- Now is the time for dog lovers
across America to nominate their canine friends for Skippy Dog Food's 46th Dog
Hero of the Year Award. This award recognizes dogs that have gone to
extraordinary lengths to assist someone in need.
Last year's winner was Shelby, a German Shepherd from Iowa who saved a
family by alerting them to dangerously high carbon monoxide levels in their
home. Shelby carried on a tradition of canine heroism that began in 1954 with
Tang, a Collie who saved children from harm or death on five separate
occasions.
The 46th Dog Hero receives these prizes:
-- One year's supply of Skippy Canned Dog Food;
-- $100 gift certificate to a local groomer;
-- Specially engraved Dog Hero food bowl.
The Dog Hero's owner wins:
-- Two-night stay at the Enchantment Resort in Sedona, Arizona, and two
spa services at Mii amo, a destination spa at Enchantment, for the
owner and a human companion;
-- Round-trip airfare for two people to Phoenix, Arizona;
-- $100 cash.
Two runners-up will each receive $200 and a certificate of merit.
To be considered for this year's award, heroic acts must have been
performed between January 1 and December 31, 2000. Nominate a Dog Hero by
