ANNAPOLIS, Md., Nov. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- FTI Consulting, Inc. (Amex: FCN),
the premier national provider of strategic and litigation-related consulting
services, today announced that Bert F. Lacativo has been appointed managing
director of its Dallas office. Lacativo will be responsible for expanding
FTI's national healthcare consulting and fraud investigation practice into the
Southwest, as well as building the company's Dallas presence.
Lacativo has over 20 years of financial and investigative experience in
the corporate, government and consulting areas. He has recently been involved
in a number of high-profile fraud investigations in the home health and
longer-term care industries.
"Our strategy is to continue to expand our company by adding offices and
specialties where there is current client demand, and staffing these offices
with the highest-caliber people," said Jack Dunn IV, FTI's chairman and chief
executive officer. "Bert will assist Phil Stern, the national director of our
healthcare consulting and fraud investigation practice, to elevate FTI to the
forefront of healthcare fraud investigation and resolution."
Most recently, Lacativo played an integral role in expanding
PricewaterhouseCooper's (PwC) Texas Investigations practice. As a director in
PwC's Dispute Analysis and Investigations practice, he directed an
investigation of kickback allegations and conspiracy to make false statements
on cost reports for one of the largest providers of home healthcare services.
The investigation led to a successful settlement in four federal districts.
He also investigated allegations of improper nursing cost allocation for a
large provider of long-term care that favorably impacted the company's ability
to negotiate a smaller settlement than originally requested by the Department
of Justice.
Before joining PwC, Lacativo was a senior manager in Arthur Andersen's
Worldwide Business Fraud Risk Services' Chicago office. He conducted domestic
and international fraud investigations in a variety of industries and assisted
clients in their fraud prevention efforts. His assignments at Arthur Andersen
included working with the international audit group of a worldwide healthcare
products provider to develop an auditing approach to identify high-risk areas
where fraud and related illegal activity could occur.
Lacativo also spent five years with the Federal Bureau of Investigation as
a special agent. As primary liaison with the U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency and the Health and Human Services Administration, he specialized in
Fraud Against Government matters, including Medicare, Medicaid, EPA and DOD
fraud.
"Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement fraud is a national problem that is
becoming increasingly prevalent, and we are seeing a growing number of these
cases," said Barry Monheit, president of FTI's Financial Consulting Division.
"With his industry expertise and his experience representing both sides
involved in investigations, Bert is a valuable asset to our clients and our
firm."
Lacativo has lectured extensively on fraud investigation to diverse
audiences including the American Health Lawyers Association, the American
Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the FBI Academy, the Institute of
Internal Auditors and the Texas Hospital Council.
Commenting on his decision to join FTI, Lacativo stated, "I am looking
forward to working closely with Phil Stern to build a premier national
healthcare consulting and fraud investigation practice. While I will
initially focus on the area and industry that I know best, I am excited about
the opportunity to use all of my expertise to build our Dallas office into one
that offers the full range of FTI's world-class professional services."
Lacativo began developing his extensive background in fraud prevention and
internal investigation when he served as loss prevention supervisor at United
Technologies' Sikorsky Aircraft Division and as manager of internal controls
for Kraft General Foods' Accounting Services Organization.
Lacativo holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from Iona College in New
Rochelle, N.Y. He is a Certified Public Accountant licensed in New York,
Illinois and Texas, a Certified Fraud Examiner, associate member of the ABA,
member of the Society of Former FBI Agents, and a member of the AICPA and its
Fraud Advisory Committee.
