FREDERICK, Colo., Nov. 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- UQM TECHNOLOGIES, INC.
(Amex: UQM), a developer of alternative energy technologies, announced today
that it has received a contract from the U.S. Navy to design a diesel driven
compact lightweight generator for use on small unmanned military boats. The
UQM(R) generator will have an output of 40 kW and be used to support the
higher electric power requirements of command and control equipment required
by unmanned watercraft. The $70,000 Phase I contract was awarded by the Naval
Sea Logistics Center under the Small Business Innovation Research program and
will be performed over a period of six months.
"Unmanned watercraft require more on-board power to run the additional
electronic equipment necessary to operate the boat from a remote location.
The unmanned watercraft under development are based on seven and eleven meter
rigid hull inflatable boat platforms that have limited weight and space
availability for power generation equipment making this application ideal for
a UQM(R) generator system," said Jon Lutz, UQM Technologies' Director of
Engineering.
