Cingular Wireless, the nation's largest wireless carrier, and Island
Def Jam Records have joined forces to bring what surely is one of the most
unique music events of the year. The seven-city "Jay-Z Hangar Tour," as
part of the Cingular Sounds Live concert series, will kick off in Atlanta
at 6 am for the first of seven shows in less than 24 hours. Jay-Z will
perform 30 minute sets in Atlanta, Philadelphia, DC, New York, Chicago, Los
Angeles and Las Vegas.
"As part of our overall Cingular Music strategy, we are committed to
creating, producing and delivering these one-of-a-kind music events for
viewing on the mobile screen," said David Garver, executive director,
segment marketing and sponsorships, Cingular Wireless. "Over the past year,
Cingular Sounds Live has featured a variety of artists who are at the top
of their game and Jay-Z is no exception. We are thrilled to help Jay-Z
promote his new album, Kingdom Come, while capturing footage of his live
performances for the exclusive enjoyment of our customers."
In three of the concert locations, Cingular will hold a "Change Clothes
& Go with Jay-Z" text-promotion contest during the show whereby two lucky
Cingular customers at each event will be randomly selected to join the
mile- high entourage and attend the remaining concerts.
As with all Cingular Sounds Live events, the concert is designed to
generate content specifically for the mobile environment -- and exclusively
for Cingular customers -- as part of its Cingular Video offering. Cingular
will be capturing video of the "Jay-Z Hangar Tour" concerts and will make
the content available to its customers who reside in a 3G market and who
have a compatible handset*. To date, Cingular Sounds Live has featured
performances by top recording artists such as Ludacris, Bobby Valentino,
Shareefa, Rihanna, Pussycat Dolls, Daddy Yankee, Jamie Foxx and LeToya.
MTV VJ, Sway, will be traveling along with the tour and reporting back
to MTV viewers throughout the day with "behind the scenes" highlights from
the plane, backstage and everything in between.
