Powerful Software From Fulcrum Used To Provide CompuServe-Wide Searches
OTTAWA, CANADA AND COLUMBUS, OHIO, Nov. 17 /PRNewswire/ - CompuServe
Corporation (Nasdaq: CSRV) and Fulcrum Technologies Inc. (Nasdaq: FULCF; TSE:
FUL) today announced that CompuServe has incorporated Fulcrum's powerful and
industry-leading SearchServer(TM) information retrieval software into the
CompuServe Information Service, as part of a new version of CompuServe's File
Finder.
``We are putting the most advanced commercial search tools into the hands
of our members,'' said Sam Uretsky, vice president of business management for
CSi. ``The new enhancements to CompuServe's File Finder allow members to find
program updates, images, clip art, utilities and other solutions faster than
ever.''
With the new File Finder, searches can span a user's current community or
the entire service, making it easier to locate the files users want and to get
more up-to-date information. In addition to considerably faster searching
because of Fulcrum's 32-bit architecture, File Finder now allows users to
locate files based on the full text of a file description, or they can choose
to limit their searches to key words and standard file attributes.
``CompuServe continues to deliver value to its subscribers, and so its
choice of Fulcrum software is especially rewarding,'' said Mike Laginski,
president and chief operating officer at Fulcrum. ``We are pleased to work
with a premier worldwide leader among online services.''
BENEFITS OF THE NEW FILE FINDER
Community Search - The new File Finder makes use of Fulcrum's distributed
searching, and enables users to search within a particular community or
in all communities across the service.
Full-text search - All of CompuServe's files are categorized and
described, and users can now search for files based on the full
description.
Date range search - CompuServe members can search for files posted within
specified time periods, using a simple pull-down menu.
In addition, the new File Finder makes searching easier for members
because it:
Stores search results while files are being downloaded, allowing members
to browse or download additional files without restarting the search;
Calculates a relevance rating using Fulcrum's powerful relevance
features; and
Allows for ``More Like This'' searches, by making use of Fulcrum's
powerful Intuitive Searching(TM) feature.
