TimeSys(R) and ADI Engineering Deliver Embedded Linux(R) SDK for Quinque CompactPCI Platform

Complete, High-Performance Hardware/Software Solution Based on the Intel(R)
XScale(TM) Microarchitecture Is Targeted at Carrier-Class Network Systems With
                      High-Bandwidth System Requirements

BOSTON and PITTSBURGH, Nov. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Embedded Systems Conference
- TimeSys Corporation(R) and ADI Engineering Inc. today announced that they
have released a certified embedded Linux software development kit for ADI's
XScale-based Quinque Compact PCI board. The Quinque, utilizing the Intel(R)
XScale(TM) 80200 microprocessor, is a feature-rich control plane processor for
high-bandwidth processing and communications applications, offering a
combination of a universal hot swap CompactPCI interface, dual Ethernet ports,
PMC expansion slots, and unmatched sustained memory bandwidth for the Intel
XScale microarchitecture of up to 800 MB/second. Coupling the Quinque with
the TimeSys Linux SDK provides OEMs with a supported Linux development
environment that includes a high-performance embedded Linux operating system,
certified device drivers and cross-platform development tools for the design,
development and rapid deployment of next-generation data communications,
networking, and switching applications.
"TimeSys' Linux development environment enables our OEM customers to
jumpstart their projects with a solid Linux SDK with performance capabilities
that are perfectly paired with our high-bandwidth Quinque boards," said ADI
Engineering president Steve Yates. "Using TimeSys' complete Linux products
and powerful extensions such as TimeSys Linux /NET, OEM's can use functions
such Network Reservations to create whole new classes of functionality and
application reliability. With our high-performance, high-bandwidth Quinque
reference platforms that take advantage of the Intel XScale
microarchitecture's processing performance and low power consumption, we are
providing OEM engineers with a unique and complete `out of the box' solution
that will decrease the time-to-market and total cost of ownership of carrier-
class network systems."
"Delivering the Quinque evaluation platform with our Linux SDK as a solid,
off-the-shelf product is a compelling business proposition for OEM customers
as they realize solid returns in faster development, simplified migration for
systems designers, and longer product life," said TimeSys CEO Larry Weidman.
"Developers using our joint solution will realize a faster time to market
because they can focus on application development for their product rather
than board design or configuration of the operating system. Also, with our
performance extensions, OEMs can build applications with guaranteed
performance and the ability to survive system overloads."
The ADI Quinque Linux SDK provides OEM developers with a targeted software
development kit. The Linux development environment includes a complete Linux
distribution with over 190 Linux packages and utilities, the industry's lowest
latency, fully preemptible Linux kernel, Linux cross-platform and board hosted
GNU tool chains, complete "to the edge of the board" set of certified device
drivers for serial, Ethernet, PCI/PMC and Compact PCI, and complete user and
API documentation. Also available are loadable kernel modules that enhance
the performance of the operating system and protect the product's lifecycle.
TimeSys Linux/Real-Time converts TimeSys Linux into a fully featured Real-Time
Operating System (RTOS), while TimeSys Linux/CPU and /NET are unique
reservation technologies that ensure application performance regardless of
system or network load.
Additionally, TimeSys brings all the Linux tools needed for OEMs to create
new value, such as TimeStorm(TM), a Windows-hosted IDE with cross-platform
capabilities; TimeTrace(R), a Windows-hosted target platform for event
tracing, timing analysis and visualization tool; and TimeWiz(R), a Windows-
hosted real-time analysis and simulation tool.

Pricing and availability: The Quinque Linux Developer's Kit with the
TimeSys Linux SDK is available immediately from ADI Engineering for $4590.
OEM pricing for Quinque is $995 each in 1,000 piece quantities.
