The annual exhibition, which closed on Sunday, November 17, is considered
among the nation's top auto shows. This year's show featured the world debut
of the production version of Lexus' new GX470 SUV. GMC introduced their 2004
Envoy XUV which features a power sliding rear roof and an all-weather cargo
area, Land Rover unveiled an evolution of its Freelander called the SE3 and
Volvo introduced its first SUV, the XC90, and a performance version of its
best-selling sedan, the S60R. Maserati announced its return to North America
at the auto show with a new Coupe and Spyder inspired by Formula One racing.
The show also featured the presentation of the Family Vehicle of the Year
by AMI Auto World to Honda for its new Pilot SUV. Honda also received another
award for its Fit, a small hatchback unavailable in the U.S. but widely
popular elsewhere, by the Interamerican Federation of Automobile Journalists.
"We had a tremendous turn out for this year's show," said Jim Arrigo, auto
show chairman. "People really wanted to see what manufacturers have in store
for the coming year. Where else can visitors examine hundreds of models under
one roof?"
The South Florida International Auto Show is produced by the South Florida
Auto-Truck Dealers Association, which comprises 220 dealerships in Dade,
Broward, Palm Beach and Monroe counties.
