The Home Depot(R) Opens Culiacan Store

Home Improvement Specialists Ready to Serve Building Professionals And
                Do-It-Yourselfers in New International Market

CULIACAN, SIN, Mexico, Nov. 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The Home Depot
(NYSE: HD), the world's leading home-improvement retailer, today announced the
opening of its Culiacan store, the company's 11th location in Mexico and third
constructed store to open this year.
"We've assembled an outstanding team of associates for the new location,"
said Ricardo Saldivar, president of Home Depot Mexico. "Almost all of the
associates hired are from Culiacan and have undergone extensive training to
serve the home improvement needs of local consumers. We are committed to
providing our customers the best customer service in the home-improvement
industry and the most extensive product lines at the most affordable prices."
Additionally, Home Depot is further strengthening its position as a major
home-improvement retailer in Mexico with the construction of a store in San
Luis Potosi with an expected opening date of mid-December. Additional sites
in Mexico are also under consideration for development next year.
Serving both the do-it-yourselfer and professional customer, the new
warehouse-style store will stock approximately 30,000 different kinds of
building materials, home-improvement supplies, interior design products,
plants and lawn and garden accessories across 11 departments.
The Culiacan store will offer a PRO Desk with special services for
industries, architects, professional contractors and builders. The major
benefits of the PRO Desk are fast in-and-out service, a dedicated staff for
personalized service, "in-stock" and job lot quantities for contractors,
competitive prices and expanded credit plans with job specific billing. In
addition, the store delivers items directly to job sites, or assembles orders
for quick pick up by customers. The Home Depot PRO Desk accepts orders via
fax and/or telephone.
The Culiacan store will offer in-store, how-to clinics providing step-by-
step instructions for many popular projects, including door installation and
replacement, and flooring and painting techniques. Building professionals
will find knowledgeable commercial sales people and services geared toward
their specialized needs.
The new store also has design centers staffed by professional designers
who offer free in-store consultation for home improvement projects ranging
from lighting to computer-assisted design for kitchens. Home Depot offers
installation services of select products ranging from such single-items as
carpet to more extensive projects as kitchen cabinets.
Located at Blvd. Emiliano Zapata No. 1546 Pte., the new 77,000-sq. ft.
store includes a 10,000-sq. ft. outside garden center and 20,000-sq. ft.
building materials yard. The store's regular hours are Monday through
Saturday, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
In June 2001, Home Depot entered Mexico through the acquisition of Total
HOME. The Total HOME stores in Monterrey and Mexico City were converted to
Home Depot stores in March 2002. Earlier this year, the company acquired Del
Norte, a four-store home improvement chain formally based in Ciudad Juarez,
Chihuahua. With these acquisitions, Home Depot became Mexico's second largest
home improvement retailer in a home improvement market that is sized at more
than $12.5 billion. Home Depot employs approximately 1,750 associates in
Mexico and operates a division office in Monterrey directly supporting the
company's stores in Mexico.
Founded in 1978, The Home Depot is the world's largest home improvement
specialty retailer and the second largest retailer in the United States, with
fiscal 2001 sales of $53.6 billion. The company employs approximately 296,000
associates and has 1,473 stores in 49 states, Puerto Rico, seven Canadian
provinces and Mexico. The company for the second year in a row was named
sixth Most Admired Company in America by Fortune magazine, which has also
ranked it as America's Most Admired Specialty Retailer for eight consecutive
years. Its stock is traded on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE: HD) and is
included in the Dow Jones Industrial Average and Standard & Poor's 500 Index.
