RICHMOND, Va., Nov. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- The first national conference to
link community development and smart growth in addressing the issues of urban
sprawl will be held Wednesday, Nov. 28, at the Capital Hilton in Washington,
D.C. Leading smart-growth experts will join local community leaders for an
interactive discussion of practical solutions to successful smart community
development. Leading smart-growth proponent Parris Glendening, Governor of
Maryland, will deliver the keynote address at 12:45 p.m. Other experts in the
field include:
* Bruce Katz, Director, Center on Urban and Metropolitan Policy,
Brookings Institution (scheduled to appear at 9 a.m.)
* Neal Peirce, National Syndicated Columnist and Chairman of Citistates
Group (scheduled to appear at 9 a.m.)
Panel speakers will discuss the roles of community development leaders in
providing equitable regional approaches to issues like affordable housing,
transportation, education, and workforce development. Conference participants
will discuss potential opportunities and obstacles to merging community
development and neighborhood revitalization with sustainable approaches to
regional growth.
This conference is cosponsored by the Local Initiatives Support
Corporation (LISC), National Neighborhood Coalition, and the Federal Reserve
Bank of Richmond, with support from the Federal Reserve Banks of Atlanta and
Philadelphia.
The conference will be held from 8:45 a.m. until 5:15 p.m., Wednesday,
Nov. 28, at the Capital Hilton, 16th and K Streets N.W., Washington, D.C.
