'Tis the Season to Ship Smart

ENGLEWOOD, Colo., Nov. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- With the joy of holiday gift
giving, comes the chore of holiday gift shipping. The varying packaging
requirements and holiday shipping and mailing deadlines can be confusing and
produce an unnecessarily high level of anxiety around long-distance gift
giving. Freight lines are dealing with a major increase in shipped goods due
to the popularity of Internet online buying which makes it even more important
to pack and ship holiday gifts properly and with confidence.
The following packaging and shipping tips are offered by the professionals
at Pak Mail to ensure that holiday gifts arrive at their destinations in good
condition and in good time.

    1. Ship early. For U.S. destinations, December 8 is the recommended
deadline. December 2 is the recommended deadline for international
shipping and mailing. Last chance deadline for ground delivery is
December 15. After that, air transportation is recommended and will
        be more costly.

    2.  UPS package size restrictions:  Maximum 130 inches length and girth;
maximum weight 150 lbs. Post Office size restrictions: Maximum 130
inches length and girth; maximum weight 70 lbs. Pak Mail has no size
        or weight shipping restrictions.

    3. Both the Post Office and UPS prefer new, sturdy boxes, no brown paper,
no string, no "Scotch," masking or duct tape, and no newspaper for
fragile item protection. Use Styrofoam "peanuts" and postal approved
        packaging tape.

    4. Consolidate your packages and shipments. Keep in mind that one
20-pound box costs less to ship than two 10-pound boxes.

    5. Avoid bulky, lightweight items (they may have to be sent at an
        oversize rate).

    6. If possible, ship to a business address to be sure someone is there
        to receive the package.

    7. Use declared value coverage for peace of mind.

    8. Instead of hauling along your gifts to your own holiday destination,
ship them on ahead of you.

    9. Enclose an extra address label inside the package just in case the
        outside is damaged during shipping.

    10. Let professionals, like those at Pak Mail, pack all of your fragile
        gifts to ensure safe delivery.
Pak Mail stores nationwide offer complete packaging and shipping services.
