SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Gateway Country stores are making
it much easier for customers to get broadband Internet access quickly.
Working with America Online, Inc. (NYSE: AOL) and Texas Instruments
Incorporated, Gateway has created a broadband package that allows customers in
the Bay Area to preview the service, find out immediately if DSL is available
to their residence, register for the AOL PLUS DSL service and order a new
Gateway PC with a free, built-in modem based on Texas Instruments DSL
technology -- all in a matter of minutes.
Bay Area Gateway Country stores -- located in Cupertino, Pleasanton,
Concord, Santa Rosa, San Mateo, Colma, Novato, San Jose and Berkeley -- now
offer free clinics featuring "hands on" demonstrations of DSL capabilities and
providing answers to consumers' questions about the service. Interested
customers can quickly find out if DSL service is available to their home,
simply by entering their phone number and ZIP code at a self-service kiosk.
"Broadband makes the Internet faster and more interesting but until now,
getting a DSL line into your home could be a challenge," said Keith Martin,
president, Gateway Country stores. "Just as we've done with PCs and
technology products, Gateway Country stores now are making broadband Internet
access easier and more understandable for our customers by letting them try
before they buy and get face-to-face advice from an expert."
Consumers buying a new Gateway Select or Performance PC will be able to
choose an Internet service option included in their purchase price: one year
of AOL dial-up service or three months of AOL PLUS DSL service. Those
selecting the AOL PLUS service will receive free Texas Instruments DSP-based
DSL modem technology built into their PC, and an easy self-installation kit.
Bay Area residents who already own a PC and want to upgrade to broadband
can visit any Gateway Country store to find out if they are eligible for the
service. If they are, a Gateway Country employee will provide them with a
package including one free month of AOL PLUS DSL, a free DSL modem and a
self-installation kit. After the free trial ends, AOL PLUS DSL users will be
charged a monthly DSL fee of $19.95 in addition to their standard monthly AOL
service charge of $21.95 per month.
Existing AOL members can visit Keyword: AOL PLUS to see if they are
qualified for the AOL PLUS DSL service, which provides consumers with an
enhanced interactive experience by offering them everything they need to
connect to and use the AOL service and the Internet over their current phone
line and enjoy the advantages of broadband content. With it, AOL members can
make the most of their broadband experience with a variety of enhanced
multi-media content including streaming video, audio and games.
