Tyson Honored With 15 Worker Safety Awards

    SPRINGDALE, Ark., Nov. 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The worker safety
efforts of Tyson Foods, Inc. (NYSE: TSN) have been honored with 15 awards from
the Safety Council of the Ozarks, the company announced.
    During the Council's recent annual safety awards ceremony, Tyson received
the Outstanding Safety Committee award, while some of the company's Arkansas
poultry operations were also named winners.  Three Tyson facilities were
awarded for working more than a million hours without a lost workday accident,
six were honored for their improved safety records and five were recognized
for outstanding safety records.
    "Our company is committed to providing a safe working environment for all
of our Team Members, and we demonstrate this commitment through such things as
safety training, safety committees and ergonomic improvements in tools and
equipment," said Kevin Igli, vice president of Environmental, Health & Safety
for Tyson.  "We're pleased to be recognized by the Safety Council for our
efforts."
    Tyson received the Outstanding Safety Committee award for striving for
safety and health excellence by developing a culture of Team Member
involvement and management commitment.
    Tyson's poultry processing plant on Randall Wobbe Road in Springdale, as
well as poultry processing plants in Dardanelle and Clarksville, each won the
Les Reynolds Million Hour award.  This honor is given to plants that have more
than one million work hours without a lost workday incident.
    The company's Johnson Road feed mill in Springdale received the Most
Improved Safety Record Award for showing a commitment to safety and health
through continuous reduction in injury and illness rates.  Tyson's feed mills
in Waldron and Nashville, the bird catching crew in Waldron and hatcheries at
Waldron and Green Forest were each named a runner-up in this category.
    Tyson poultry grow out operations in Clarksville and Waldron, hatcheries
in Murfreesboro and Nashville and the Chick-N-Quick processing plant in Rogers
were each recognized as a runner-up for the Best Industrial Safety Record
award.  This honor is given to operations that maintain recordable injury
rates well below industry average.
