R2 Launches Version 8.1 Mammography CAD System for Maximum Flexibility and Detection Performance

New Algorithm Advances to Be Among Featured Products at RSNA

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Nov. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- R2 Technology, Inc., the leader
in computer aided detection (CAD) technology for the earlier detection of
breast cancer and other medical conditions, today introduced its new
ImageChecker(R) Version 8.1 Mammography CAD system. V8.1 is the first CAD
solution to offer separate operating points -- between the system's highest
sensitivity and lowest false marker rates -- for masses and
microcalcifications, providing physicians with maximum flexibility and
detection performance. The new release now powers R2's entire mammography CAD
processing product line and is available as an upgrade for existing systems.
V8.1 will be featured at the 91st Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting of
the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) in Chicago, November 27 -
December 2, in Booth #8532 (North Hall).
"Version 8.1 gives radiologists maximum CAD flexibility when reviewing
mammography images," said Shawl Lobree, R2's vice president of marketing. "For
example, a site can choose to set the highest sensitivity for
microcalcifications, while setting the operating point for masses to a lower
false marker rate. This new offering continues our tradition of developing
innovative CAD solutions that best meet our customers' clinical and workflow
needs." Mr. Lobree noted that R2's installed base, going back to initial
ImageChecker mammography CAD systems purchased in 2000, can upgrade to the
company's newest Gold Standard CAD(TM) algorithm, flexible operating points
and other unique capabilities.
Version 8.1 also contains other exclusive R2 features, including the R2
Malc(TM) mark, which indicates a mass with microcalcifications; EmphaSize(TM)
variable size CAD marks, which correlate to lesion significance; and the
GreenLight(TM) user interface, which enables technologists to process
mammography cases quickly and monitor film scanning from a distance, without
interrupting other work.
Five independent prospective clinical studies* from academic and community
practices showed that the use of R2's mammography CAD resulted in 6.6 percent
to 19.5 percent more cancers detected. Independent studies* comparing CAD
performance on architectural distortions, cases graded by difficulty, and
small invasive breast cancers all demonstrate the advantage of R2's
market-leading CAD algorithm.

R2's Other Featured Products at RSNA Will Include:
DigitalNow(TM) Software System -- This system helps facilitate mammography
centers' transition to a digital mammography environment by enabling
mammography films to be digitized and archived via DICOM to a PACS for use
later in a soft-copy viewing environment.
ImageChecker(R) DMax CAD System -- With its high-throughput and superior
laser scanning image quality, this system primarily serves the CAD needs of
high-volume mammography centers.
ImageChecker(R) LS CAD System -- This system features R2's Gold Standard
CAD(TM) technology in a unique tabletop package and is designed exclusively
for low volume, film-based mammography sites.
    ImageChecker(R) D CAD System -- Designed exclusively for digital-based
mammography centers, this system accepts images from a broad range of digital
mammography vendors and delivers CAD results to DICOM workstations or PACS,
allowing for maximum flexibility -- even in multi-vendor digital mammography
environments.
ImageChecker(R) CT Lung Nodule V2.0 CAD System -- With its AutoPoint(TM)
automatic temporal comparison feature, this second-generation, FDA-approved
(PMA) system assists in the review of multi-slice CT (MSCT) chest exams to
help maximize physician accuracy and efficiency in finding overlooked
actionable lung nodules and tracking changes in size over time.
Pulmonary Artery Patency Exam (PE(TM)) for Chest MSCT -- A feature with
the ImageChecker CT Lung CAD V2.0, this tool uses CAD technology to help
physicians more accurately and efficiently detect potential intravascular
pulmonary artery filling defects, such as pulmonary emboli, during review of
MSCT exams. Launched in mid-2005, it is the first commercially available tool
of its kind.
