Macy's Holidazzle Parades Kick Off 16th Season on Nov. 23

New Macy's elements add magic for parade-goers

MINNEAPOLIS, Nov. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- WHAT: The 16th season of the Macy's Holidazzle(R) Parades kicks off at 6:15 p.m. this Friday, Nov. 23, in downtown Minneapolis. A half million bundled-up parade-goers will be enchanted by dazzling lights, festive floats, costumed characters, celebrity grand marshals and marching bands during the parade season. On opening night, Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak will be the Grand Marshal and the Minnesota Chorale and the Minnesota Freedom Band will perform. Since the parade's start in 1992, when Dayton's employees helped create the Holidazzle Parades, Macy's has been the opening night sponsor. In 2007, Macy's will also become the parade's title sponsor, in addition to the opening night sponsor. Macy's will bring several new elements to the parade, including a dazzling, new Nutcracker float, which will be the first full-size float in three years. Red strawberry lanterns and a giant drum set will adorn the Nutcracker themed float. The Nutcracker doodlebug, a spinning toy soldier, will accompany the float, along with Nutcracker ballerinas and other characters. Dedicated Macy's Holidazzle fans and first-time parade-goers alike will revel in the brilliance of the new Nutcracker float, new Red Star Costumes and broader public access to Hot Seats. New banners will precede each float, announcing the float's name and sponsor, so everyone can become a Macy's Holidazzle expert. Parade-goers can now experience all of their favorite holiday traditions in one night, with the Macy's Holidazzle Package. The package includes a quick pass to the Macy's 8th Floor Auditorium Show, dinner at the Oak Grill, Macy's Holidazzle Hot Seats and complimentary parking. For more information, visit macys.com/events. Parade-goers are encouraged to donate non-perishable food or money to the Cub Foods / Ameriprise Food and Cash drive to benefit the Emergency Foodshelf Network.
