Clubs Are Invited to Apply at CBS.MarketWatch.com to Compete on CBS'
'The Early Show'
Individuals Can Also Play Along on Web Site Game Version
SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- CBS MarketWatch.com, the
most-visited financial news site on the Web, is calling for investment clubs
to apply by December 1 in order to compete for a cash prize of up to $500,000.
The investment game, "CBS MarketWatch Survivor," will be featured from
January 8 through April 16 on the CBS' "The Early Show" and will pit
investment clubs from around the nation against one another until only one
"survives" -- and wins the cash. The companion contest, for individual
participants, will run concurrently on the CBS MarketWatch.com Web site,
featuring daily rankings and features on investment club participants.
"Every day, MarketWatch.com provides millions of Americans with financial
news and information through CBS MarketWatch.com, the 'CBS MarketWatch
Weekend' television show and on the MarketWatch.com Radio Network," said
Larry Kramer, president and CEO of MarketWatch.com. "Our investment game will
provide our CBS MarketWatch.com and 'The Early Show' audience with the
opportunity to transform this gold mine of knowledge into real wealth."
In the "CBS MarketWatch Survivor" competition, fourteen investment clubs
selected by CBS from the applicants will start with portfolios based on a
fantasy investment of $100,000. Market ups and downs of contest participants
will be chronicled in regular segments on The Early Show. A losing team will
be eliminated each week until a winning club with the largest investment
portfolio is left standing -- because "there can be only one Survivor."
"CBS MarketWatch Survivor" runs until April 16. The winning team will
receive the entire actual value of its portfolio -- up to $500,000.
Clubs seeking to compete in CBS MarketWatch Survivor must submit a
videotaped presentation of no more than 5 minutes in length. The tape must
show club members, provide basic information about the club (name, address,
etc.), as well as an explanation of what makes the club unique. To be
eligible to be selected for the contest, an investment club must have been in
existence prior to October 1, 2000 and must meet the requirements detailed on
the contest application.

The online game, meanwhile, launches on January 8 and concludes
April 16. Individuals also start out with a $100,000 fantasy portfolio. Cash
prize awards are $20,000 for first place, $10,000 for second place, and
$5,000 for third place. There will also be three monthly cash prizes of
$5,000 for the winner placing first in each month.
