LOS ANGELES, Nov. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- On Saturday, November 23, Ralphs
shopper Patrick Julian, of Hollywood, will attempt to complete a 25-yard pass
through a 20-inch target between the first and second quarter of the UCLA-USC
football game at the Rose Bowl. If Julian is successful at completing the
pass he will win $500,000!
Julian, who shops at the Ralphs supermarket at 7257 Sunset Boulevard in
Hollywood, won the chance to be a football hero in the "Ralphs Club and
Healthy Choice $500,000 Pigskin Classic 2002." Customers were automatically
entered in the contest each time they purchased a Healthy Choice brand product
with their Ralphs Club Card from September 4 - 19, 2002.
Julian, an indexer at Nils Publishing in Chatsworth, has been practicing
his aim with friends the past few weeks.
"I'm going to close my eyes and hope for the best," said the 33-year-old
Michigan native, who was an offensive lineman on his high school football
team. "I have been practicing. I plant someone 25 yards away. It doesn't
sound that far until you see them 75 feet away. It's been going all
right -- I've been hitting the mark three out of 10 times."
Julian will have one chance to hit a 20-inch target placed 25 yards away
on the Rose Bowl gridiron.
"I know I can throw a football 25 yards but hitting a 20-inch target is
another thing," he said. "Maybe the gods will be with me tomorrow. I'm just
looking forward to it."
Julian will be coming to the Rose Bowl Saturday with his own cheering
section. "I'll have three of my friends hooting and hollering for me in the
stands," added Julian, who also received four tickets to the famed game as
part of the grand prize.
Should Julian complete the $500,000 pass, it would make a perfect
Hollywood ending. Like many in Hollywood, Julian is also a budding
screenwriter. He said completing the pass would be a great touch to end his
Hollywood story. In fact, Julian has already drafted how he would like to
complete this football tale.
"If I somehow hit the target, I plan to use the money to fund my true
passion to become a screenwriter."
Even if Julian throws an incomplete pass, he will not be disappointed.
That's because as a consolation prize, he will receive $900 in Ralphs gift
certificates. He also received four tickets to Saturday's Bruin-Trojan game.
As far as who Julian will be rooting for? He says he has no favorite.
"I've only been in California for three years. I'm really a University of
Michigan fan. But since the game's at the Rose Bowl, I'll be a UCLA fan for
the day."
The Ralphs Club & Healthy Choice Pigskin Classic 2002 Sweepstakes and
Contest ran in all Southern California Ralphs stores. Ten semi-finalists were
randomly selected and awarded $100 Ralphs gift certificates, followed by the
