From Runway to VJ! MTV's Susie Castillo Speaks Out in This Issue of YOUNG MONEY(R) Magazine

Also Featured: Holiday Travel Bargains, How Much Do
                        You REALLY Know About Credit?

ORLANDO, Fla., Nov. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- In the latest issue of YOUNG
MONEY(R) magazine, which hits college campuses nationwide this week, MTV
veejay and former Miss USA Susie Castillo shares her story of beating the odds
by escaping a poor neighborhood, winning the title of Miss USA, and finding
fame on the small screen -- all before the age of 25.
Castillo and her sisters were the first generation of their family to
attend college. In this issue, she talks openly about the influence her mother
had to help her escape life in the barrio:
"My mom was a single mom so as we were growing up, she wanted us to have
more than she ever had. She always taught us to have goals, and to go beyond
what people expect of you. Where I grew up, people don't expect much of you,
so it was great to have my mom be this positive reinforcement, telling us how
talented we were, and how we can achieve all these things even though nobody
else does around here. She taught us that the opportunities are out there, and
you can do whatever you want."
As someone who has faced her share of challenges, she also offers these
words of advice to young adults: "People don't believe in themselves, and
don't set goals. Or maybe they set goals, but don't think they can achieve
them. I never in a million years thought I would be Miss USA then go to the
Miss Universe pageant and be chosen in the top 15 out of 71 women from across
the world. You have to believe in yourself and you have to have confidence,
and people will see that."
Castillo, who has been modeling since age 15, was crowned Miss USA in
2003, after winning the titles of Miss Massachusetts. She has guest starred on
UPN's "Half and Half" and ABC's "My Wife and Kids" and currently serves as the
host of MTV's "Total Request Live" and "Weekend Dime." For more information,

    * Holiday Travel Bargains: University of Florida student Angela
Castellanos offers up a myriad of options for students looking to take a
vacation on a dime. As noted in the article, while summer is full of
internships, summer school or temporary jobs, the winter holidays might
be the only time students have to actually go home and relax. For a
vacation on a dime, become a tourist in your own hometown by checking
out local museums or art galleries, or take a day trip with friends to
avoid the cost of hotels. Other ideas include flying to destinations
during off-peak seasons, and registering for a service trip, where costs
are minimal and you can expand your horizons while volunteering.

    * How Much do you Really Know about Credit: Emily Olsen of Virginia Tech
University writes on new research which reveals a disconnect between
what students think they know about credit, and what they actually know.
According to the Credit-ED/ Harris Interactive Financial Literacy
Survey, 40% of students don't realize that opening several credit cards
hurts their credit score and 72% of students have never requested a free
credit report. Olsen profiles one college graduate who learned these
facts the hard way, and offers up smart tips for students to keep their
      credit in check.
