AURORA, Colo., Nov. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Because of varying packaging
requirements and holiday shipping and mailing deadlines, the high anxiety
around long-distance gift giving can be compounded at this time of year.
The professionals at packaging and shipping centers like Pak Mail Centers
know all the current postal and shipping regulations and offer these tips and
guidelines to help make it a smooth holiday season.
-- Ship early. For international destinations, December 1 is a
preferred shipping deadline for packages being sent by air. For
U.S. destinations with UPS delivery, December 10 is the deadline.
The last chance deadline for ground delivery before the 25th is
December 18th. After the 18th, Pak Mail recommends air
transportation services which will be more costly.
-- UPS and the Post Office prefer:
- New sturdy boxes.
- No brown paper.
- No string.
- No "Scotch," masking or duct tape.
- No newspaper for fragile item protection
(use styrofoam "peanuts").
-- Consolidate your shipments. One 20-pound box costs less than two
10-pound boxes.
-- UPS size restrictions: Maximum 130 inches length and girth; maximum
weight 150 lbs. Post Office size restrictions: Maximum 108 inches
length and girth; maximum weight 70 lbs. Pak Mail will take
packages of any size or weight for shipping.
-- Ship to business addresses, if possible, so you know someone will be
there to receive it.
-- Use insurance for peace of mind.
-- Put address labels inside the packages as well as on the outside.
-- If traveling, lighten your load and ship the packages on ahead.
Pak Mail recommends you mail your cards by December 5.
