Inclusion of HSA Provision Benefits American Consumers
MILWAUKEE, Nov. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Fortis Health, a leading national
health insurer, applauds the House for passing the Medicare Prescription &
Modernization Act of 2003 (S.1, HR.1) on Saturday and implores the Senate to
pass the legislation. This Act includes a provision for Health Savings
Accounts (HSAs), which will increase health insurance options available to
consumers and make health insurance more affordable. The Act also provides tax
advantages for all Americans, while putting individuals in control of their
own health care costs.
"We are confident this will benefit American consumers as an outstanding
consumer-choice insurance alternative for business owners, individuals and
families," said Don Hamm, Fortis Health President & CEO. "As a strong
supporter of Medical Savings Accounts, and a leading provider of the
accompanying health insurance plan, we're also pleased that the House recently
passed a 12-month extension on MSAs. This provides a needed transition period
between MSA availability and the introduction of HSAs into the marketplace."
Fortis Health currently offers a diverse portfolio of consumer-choice
product and plan designs
"Building on our current portfolio, we strongly support HSAs as another
option for employers, individuals and families to secure affordable health
coverage," stated Hamm.
Fortis Health currently offers a variety of health insurance products and
options for consumers, including Medical Savings Account (MSAs) plans, Health
Reimbursement Arrangements (HRAs), Premium Only Plans (POPs), Flexible
Spending Accounts (FSAs), high-deductible Individual Medical plans and Short-
