Dice Inc. Unveils Technology Hiring Trends to Be Thankful for This Holiday Season

Job Postings on Dice.com Reach Highest Level Since 2001

Washington D.C. Sees 94% Increase in Job Postings

                      Denver Continues its Rapid Growth

NEW YORK, Nov. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Dice Inc., the leading online job board
for technology professionals, today revealed the top technology job trends to
be grateful for this holiday season. Dice's data reveals that the tech
employment market is improving with several metro areas experiencing rapid
growth in technology positions and many skills seeing increased demand.
"While it has been a difficult year for technology professionals, we are
finding more reasons to be thankful," said Scot Melland, president and CEO of
Dice Inc. "Technology job postings in Washington D.C. and Denver have grown
substantially as well as several other smaller markets. Overall, job postings
on dice.com are up over 50% this year. These signs are evidence of an
improving tech employment market as we enter the new year."
Technology professionals in the Washington D.C. area have much to be
thankful for, as the area has seen a 94% increase in jobs posted since this
time last year. Approximately 11% of all the positions require security
clearance -- a need that continues to grow. The most requested programming
languages in the area include Microsoft ASP (Active Server Pages), C, C++ and
Java.
Denver has also seen strong growth with job postings escalating 172% over
the past twelve months. Other medium-sized metro areas showing rapid advances
include Tampa/Orlando, Minneapolis, St. Louis, and Charlotte, which have all
experienced job posting gains over 45%. The fastest growing skills areas
include positions requiring ASP experience, up 237% over the past year and a
half, driven in part by the launch of ASP.net, and positions requiring
experience with Sun Solaris infrastructure, up 94% over the same period.
During October, 2003, the skills most frequently searched for by employers
on dice.com were: Java, Oracle, C, SAP and Unix, with Project Manager, Oracle
and J2EE experiencing the largest increases month-to-month, gaining 50%, 43%
and 38% respectively.
