Legislation expands availability of health savings accounts for all Americans
MILWAUKEE, Nov. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Fortis Health, a leading national
health insurer for individuals, small businesses and business owners,
announces its support of the Medicare Prescription & Modernization Act, which
was passed today by Congress in a 54 to 44 vote. The Act includes a provision
for Health Savings Accounts (HSAs), which will increase health insurance
options available to consumers, and make health insurance more affordable. The
Act also provides tax advantages for all Americans, while putting individuals
in control of their own health care costs.
"We're encouraged with this news because President Bush has previously
indicated he will sign the bill into law once it comes before him," said Don
Hamm, Fortis Health President & CEO. "The passing of this legislation will
create a powerful new incentive to purchase health insurance for Americans who
currently do not have coverage, and noted that it also provides important tax
incentives for people who purchase their own insurance."
