To Save With PowerPlus in January, These Customers Must Register by Monday;
Penelec, Met-Ed Customers' Deadline Is December 10 for January Savings
WILKES-BARRE, Pa., Nov. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- PP&L and UGI customers have
until Monday to register for electric-bill savings that begin in January.
PG Energy PowerPlus announced last week a 1999 electricity rate that will
help cut the bills of PP&L customers by 8 percent and UGI customers by
3 percent. Those customers have until Monday to begin saving in January.
PowerPlus's rates also will help Penelec and Met-Ed customers reduce their
electricity bills by 7 percent and 6.5 percent respectively. Those customers
have until December 10 to register for savings that begin in January.
For PP&L, Penelec and Met-Ed customers, their savings will be a
combination of utility rate reductions and additional savings offered by
PowerPlus. UGI customers' savings will come entirely from PowerPlus's lower
prices.
PowerPlus can help commercial and industrial customers enjoy savings that
may exceed those available to residential customers. PowerPlus is a
subsidiary of Pennsylvania Enterprises, Inc., of Wilkes-Barre, (PEI)
(NYSE: PNT).
"We can tell by the ringing phones in our center that customers are
beginning to understand that PowerPlus can help them lower their electricity
bills," said Thomas F. Karam, President and CEO of PEI. "To maximize those
savings by receiving electricity from PowerPlus in January, customers must
register before the deadlines. Postponing your call to PowerPlus will postpone
your savings."
Mr. Karam said customers may enroll with PowerPlus by calling the Company,
toll-free, at 1-888-699-PLUS (7587). Operators will be on duty weekdays from
8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. When they
call, customers will be asked for their name, address, telephone number, the
name of the utility company that delivers their electricity, their electric
utility account number and the fuel used to heat their home.
Customers also may enroll with PowerPlus through its website at
http://www.pgenergypowerplus.com.
After enrolling, PowerPlus customers will be mailed a disclosure statement
that details their service agreement with PowerPlus.
Excepting lower bills, Mr. Karam said customers who choose PowerPlus will
experience no differences in their electric service. The customer's utility
company will continue to deliver electricity, respond to service calls and
maintain the system through which the customer receives power. The customer
will continue to pay that company for its delivery services.
There are no fees associated with selecting PG Energy PowerPlus and
customers will continue to receive one bill. PowerPlus customers also will be
able to participate in Pennsylvania Enterprises' Customer Stock Purchase
Program. The program allows customers to purchase PEI stock at a 5 percent
discount and without paying a broker's charge. Additional information about
the program is available by contacting the Company's Customer Stock Purchase
Plan, toll-free, at 1-888-700-7862.
