anywhere computing, the company today announced the first in a series of
affordable, easy-to-use wireless devices for business, education and
government clients. Based on the Wi-Fi 802.11b wireless industry standard,
the new local area network (LAN) products support Gateway's long-term wireless
strategy to provide clients with untethered broadband access to the Internet,
wherever they may be -- in the office, on a school campus or in a public "hot
spot," such as an airport, hotel or coffee shop.

Gateway's wireless LAN solutions include several Lucent ORiNOCO products,
including a PC Card for portable PCs, a PCI Adapter for desktops, and two
access points, giving clients a range of price points and performance levels
to meet their specific needs. With the installation of an access point in a
central location and a PCI Adapter or PC Card inserted in a desktop or
portable PC, clients can move around and continue to work with complete
network access. The wireless devices will be sold as standalone products or
bundled as complete solutions, including training and installation and
configuration services.
From Small Offices to Large Campus Environments, Wireless Technology
Provides Freedom and Flexibility
Depending on a company's size, Gateway plans to offer two access points,
allowing clients to choose the best solution for their needs. Both access
points can be used with Gateway's complete line of business notebooks and
desktops. The Lucent ORiNOCO Gold PC Card is supported on all Gateway
portables, including the Solo 9300, Solo 5300, Solo 3350 and Solo 1150, and
when used with the PCI adapter, is compatible with Gateway's E-4400, E-3400
and E-1400 Managed Desktops and Gateway Professional small business desktops.
The Lucent ORiNOCO RG-1000 access point is affordable and easy to set-up,
providing a simple way to enable wireless communications in small work
environments, such as individual classrooms and small offices. Since many
small businesses lease office space, Gateway's LAN solution allows growing
companies to take their network with them when they move, providing a
tremendous cost savings and return on investment.
For larger businesses needing roaming ability and enhanced security, the
Lucent ORiNOCO AP-1000 access point enables users to connect to the office
network and access the Internet across a large campus environment. The unique
architecture and flexible design of this access point provides enhanced
network coverage and dual PC cards for increased capacity. It also delivers
high security through 128-bit encryption technology, permitting communications
that are secure and private. Wireless LANs are a simple and affordable way to
